AEM bypass valve.. yes or nea...
Just curious. I don't have one, cause I don't drive my Prelude enough to warrent one. However, my curiosity has gotten the better of me.
I think that they work, except in extreme cases. I also think that you still have a chance of getting a little water in your motor, but not necessariyl enough to cause damage.
What I (and I'm sure most all of us here) want to know is the truth...:

Those things are lame.
My situation was very lucky though, I got caught in a terrible rainstorm at Myrtle Beach, SC.. went to turn into a parking lot, and it was a big dip I couldn't see (windows were foged).. Luckly my motor was only at 1,200 RPM when it sucked up the water, but it stoped the motor DEAD..
Pushed it into the parking lot, then took the spark plugs out, TB, Intake, Filter and dried it all and turn the motor over for a while with no plugs to get all the water out, luckly it started back up and ran fine.. If my motor was spinning any faster, I would have bent all the rods...
And yes, it rained about 3 inches in 15 minutes

I dont think i would buy one, just because It doesnt get wet enough hear to warant it (*hopefully no more El Nino*). I heard a story on the integra board of one getting sucked into the throttle body.
dont anyone see the display they have for it? it has a intake totally submerged in water. so unless your gonna totally submerge your intake why bother. im sure it comes in handy once in a blue moon. but it doesnt block water from sprinkling in. just dont go trail riding through any streams or try to float across a pond an you shouldnt have anything to worry about. i personally wouldnt care to have one but thats just me.

Your right, it does only work when totally submerged.. Most the splashes will just get soaked up by the filter, and the occasional drop of water will get into the motor, and not really hurting anything, if anything the steam created will clean off the valves...
It just comes down to this.. is 40$ worth of insurance worth a freak accident that could cost thousands to fix.. If I was to buy I new one, it would have the bypass valve..

The shower was unavoidable, windows fogged, and streets were flooded all within a 2 minute period of time.. So, I went to park the car and bam, it happened. I'm sorry I am not as smart as you, and stoped in the middle of the street and waited for the shower to pass.. Please excuse my ignorance.

Well, you called it lame, why would you call it lame when it can potentially save your motor in a freak accident like mine.. Its like calling a J&S safeguard lame.
Sorry if I am picking at you, its just a dumb comment.

I have one only because I used to live in Pittsburgh, if I had to do it again now that I'm in Cali, I wouldn't have bothered. Just a safety precaution I guess... I don't really know if it ever saved me or not.
i dunno, I guess im just being picky.
You lose a little power with the bypass valve installed and imo if you live in an area that is in threat of flooding you should stick to a short ram intake and make yourself a heatshield.
