Ecu from a junk yard?
In my parts list for the manual swap it said that i can use the ecu from my auto but the manual ecu is preferred. When i was in the junkyard getting parts out of a wrecked 5th gen i was wondering if the ecu in the car would work for me. The car was totaled when it was hit on the front left fender. How fragile is the ECU, any chance its still intact. Also...is its little compartment sealed from water? Its been raining here and the junkyard obviously isn't covered.
the ecu should be alright. My p13 looked like an engine fell on it and it still worked great. I've pulled ECU's out of cars burried in snow and they were still fine.
No comment about the 'key' though.. not sure what year that started?

5th gen ECU's have an 'immobilizer', which means there is a key with a specific code that is programmed into a chip, in the key and is required to start. No key, no start.
I get what your sayin, but when you say key do you mean a physical key? Also if i were to get this ECU and didnt have the "key" is there a way i could get it or have honda reprogram the ECU?
