D16Y8 Tranny Problems
What's up guys.....I got a 2000 Civic EX....and something on my Tranny is going out...at first I thought it was the clutch but now I'm not so sure....here's what happens....I start out in first all is well...I shift into second and it starts to go then the gear pops out but it is still in the second gear position...Kinda like what happens when you put it in reverse and try to go but its not really all the way in reverse....same thing is happening here....this is all under normal driving conditions....all other gears seem to be ok...no grinding or popping out of gear. But when I down shift and right before I come to a stop like to go over a speed bump or something I ease it into first and there is slight grinding action going on there too.....Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this?....last tranny fluid change (which was 5000mi ago) I put GM synchro mesh in....I was going to change the fluid and see what happens but I wanted to check with you guys first....TIA if anyone can help solve my problem....
Yeah thats another thing that I thought about on the way to work tonight....I'll check the fluid levels and bleed and adjust it and see what happens...thanks man! Anyone got any other Ideas?....

you should try the easy/ cheap things first....this sounds like your best bet. My friends crx did that, he put about 120kmiles on it before he got in a wreck. So i dont think the tranny was 'going out' ....just a lil burp lol

Yeah right now my car only has 91k on it....I don't drive it hard all the time and 99% of my driving is on the highway when I don't have to shift at all. I'm gonna try this tonight....the fluid seems a little low so we'll start there.....thanks fellas

Alright Last night I did this and on the way to work tonight its still doing the same thing.....should I change out my tranny fluid?....you think that will make a difference at all? other then the a bad clutch or blown second gear I'm not sure what else it could be?

You adjusted your clutch lastnight? What was it you did to attempt to resolve this?

Well I bled the clutch line...it was my understanding that you can't adjust the clutch on a hydro tranny...It is all self adjusting...If this is wrong can you guide me to a how to on it?....everything I've read in the searches talks about adjusting a cable tranny....anywho the pedal is stiffer now and everytime I push the clutch pedal in it squeeks.
Try your tranny fluid, for ***** and giggles, i think u need alittle less than 2 quarts if im not mistaken. Also when your underthere check out your shiftlinkage and all your bushings under there, doubt it but maybe one of those got messed up.
I had a y8 tranny go on me, is what happened was when i was in 2-3-4-5 gear at low revs if i got on the gas i could hear a rubbing sound. and after a trip to the track(i know that was dumb) it was louder, almost a squeeling when downshifting. It got so bad that when i got on and off the gas the car would jerk, and it wouldnt stay in second gear. Then every once in a while i could hear **** clunkin around inside. So i bought a clutch masters stage 3 clutch, and a new tranny and did all the work myself.
So if the tranny fluid doesnt do it, try to stay off of it till u get the cash and time to fix it. I would guess its a bearing inside causing too much resistance on one of the shafts causing it to pop out. i wouldn't recommend rebuilding the trans unless u can do it yourself, just buy a new one, alot cheaper!
let me know if u have any of the same problems i had.
Good luck

BTW my clutch squeeks a bit too(it went away and only does it when i dont drive the car for a while), im not exactly sure why either. if you feel a clunk pop when pushing in the clutch, im pretty sure that means air bubbles and u should rebleed (happened to me). also put some grease on the ball at the end of the slave cylinder, that stoped some of my squeeking.

no problem, good luck! you can get a Y8 tranny as cheap as 100-150. i was talking to my local shop and he said this was less likely to happen to 92-95 tranny's. so he got me a JDM d15b tranny (same gearing as the Y8). down side was since it was short notice it cost me 350 but it came with a 3 month warrenty.
Good luck!
