If the Si gets a K20A2 or Z1, then the RSX and TSX needs a bump in power also. This new Si probably will have an MSRP of the Type-S if it has the stuff you say it has. That's a lot of money for a Civic.

 

If this is true that's cool. But, IMO it's still to early to go on rumors. I still think that Si's should remain in the hatchback form, but the 99-00 Si was OK I guess.

If they do put out an Si w/ 200 hp, I bet the Type S is discontinued, or get's more hp to justify the higher price tag/Acura badge.

Don't hold your breath for anything more than 200hp . . . especially if you expect the price to be less than RSX-S.

It is 100% guaranteed that Honda is doing another coupe this time around. The EM1 was a huge success while the EP3 was a miserable failure. Honda is not going to waste their time with financial risks just because people "think the Si should be a hatchback." Obviously, the market preferred the coupe. The few vocal whiners who cried for a 7th-gen Si hatchback got what they wanted, but yet they didn't buy it. Honda is going to follow the market.

The EP3 is the only Honda Civic to ever debut with dealer incentives.

The EM1 sold so fast that it actually appreciated in value for 2-3 years afterwards.

 

Id rather buy a Fit

At $19,000, the Civic Si is already too expensive. The EP3 is just uncompetitive with other sport compacts in its price range. It should have either offered more, or cost less.

When the EM1 debuted at $17,000, it was the right performance (relative to the competition at the time), the right equipment, and the right setup - all at the right price.

In 1991, the Civic Si cost somewhere around $13-14,000. I'm sure that the 8th-gen will top $20,000. But just look at the difference in specs . . . the G8 will have performance and luxury comparable to cars that did sell in the $20,000 range back in 1991.

As far as Civics getting expensive, it's just the way the market flows in America. Current 7th-gen Civics are the size of a late-'80s Accord. Civics are also equipped far better than they used to be, and the cost of developing and building a car has definitely increased a lot since then. They just keep getting bigger, heavier, and more expensive (but unfortunately, not proportionally more powerful ). The Honda Civic as we knew it is gone forever - might as well say goodbye.

Now we just have to wait for a replacement . . . another inexpensive, lightweight, sparsely-yet-generously-equipped tuner-friendly economobile like the cars we all know and love. The Fit was supposed to be here just for that purpose, but where the hell is it?

The RSX has one more model year before its redesign if Honda stays true to their current 3+2 year product cycle, so I wouldn't worry about it much. As far as the TSX goes, don't expect much more for at least another 3 model years.

good topic, im always in favor of the hatches, but the new si hatch was not too hot, i think if honda would make a coupe si again i think i would rather buy that then the hatch, also if we pretend that the new si would look similair to our current coupe civic, but with a beefy motor, i would choose the coupe over a hatch anyday
