Tires for 2004 si autocross stock class
I just got a new 2004 si last week (I love it so far, much better than my 89 si that I traded for it ) and I am going to get new wheels and tires for it. I am going to get an after market set of wheels ( looking at 16x7 asa js6 at tirerack I like the wheels, and the blue middle cover that matches the blue of my car) to put my stock tires on, and a set of autocross tires to put on my stock rims. Does anyone Know what people have been running on ep3s for autocross tires, and in what size? So far I have been leaning toward 225 50 16 avon tech r or kumho ecta v700 in the same size, or would I be better off with 205 45 16s. I have not autocrossed in about 8 years when I used to run my 89 si with a008r stock size yokos, so I am kind of out of the loop. I looked at hoosiers, and yoko a032ar tires but the hoosiers seem a little pricy, and short lasting, and the ao32rs didn't seem to get as good reviews as the avon and kumho tires.
P.s. I love my si (did I already say that?) :^)

Has anyone tried or seen Toyo proxes Ra-1 tires in autocross, my local tire dealer can get them, and they have a good deal on wheels that I like there. I would have them mount my stock tires on the new wheels, and mount the proxes on the stocks. They also can get the yoko ao32rs (which are better Ra-1s or a032rs). I figure that I could save some money on shipping mounting and balancing this way.

these are good as well. they come factory on the 04 WRX.
victor racers are good
. my neighbor uses and recommends them. 10 year SCCA stock class driver, as well as manages a local tire shop.

i have a very good friend in austin texas. he finished some testing with the tirerack this month on the Avons racing tires. he says he's out-performing the guys on hoosiers (!!!). i value his opinion and he is running in CSP.
the toyos aren't worth the scratch. they aren't as good for autocross as they are for hpde or track events.
the kumho victoracers are very stable, long-lasting, fogiving (not prone to flatspotting) and easy to maintain.
the kumho 710s were having delamination issues, so i would research that further before buying them.
the hoosiers are the stickiest, but they are very unforgiving. you can flatspot them easiest.
get the widest tire you can fit on the rim and under the fenders. shaving and heatcycling aren't worth the $$...heat cycle them yourself (easy to do and VERY fun). talk to the tirerack...they are very knowledgeable.
i wished i lived closer to their headquarters, like i did when i lived in michigan...but i don't miss the snow.

Thankyou everyone for the info. I guess I will get the wheels and avon tires unmounted from tire rack, and have my local shop mount the avons on my stock wheels, and my stock tires on the asa js6 wheels.

you may need a tire shop familiar with autocrossing or racing in general to get them to stuff a 225 tire on it. the side walls are VERY stiff.</TD></TR></TABLE>
isn't the 2004+ with the 16" wheel a 6.5" rim? AFIK the tire & rim size is the same as stock RSX on the 2004+ ones with 5 lug. . .
I wonder if that means that the 2004 guys can go to a 16x65" wheel. . . the extra half inch of wheel width might offset the larger wheel diameter. . . .
