can somebody educate me
ok, I'm thinking about getting a used M3 to replace my GSR. a buddy told me to get a 95 since its OBD-1.now what is OBD-1? what does it stands for? and why do I hear a lot about obd2 to obd1 conversion(or was it the other way around). is it good to have an obd1? did a search but it really didnt answer my question.

OBD stand for On Board Diagnostic. It is receiving all the input from the different sensors and make sure that the car is running within the "enviroment law"
from what I know OBD-1 is better because it is less restrictive in regards to modifying the car. OBD-II will tend to compensate for modifications made to the car to make sure it is still "non-polluting" and that usually mean less performance increase for a given modification. OBD-1 also seem to be easier to reprogramme.
Hope I just didn't write a load of B.S.
Anyway you can't go wrong with an M3 (just make sure it is not a fake one)

Agreed on the OBD1 vs. OBD2. OBD1 is just a "standard" that is set for the car manufactures to follow. It was created so that mechanics can read general codes and repair a variety of cars without having to get separate "readers" (you know; those computer diag readers that most mechanics have). It is true that the OBD2 makes up for fuel economy/pollution, but did this stop you from working on your 99 GSR? (Because all cars that are 96 and higher have OBD2's). Think power like TYPERMsm and SGT said!
