Default CRX Dash swap questions...

after going through the search, i've found out it bolts up. awesome.

now, my question that i couldn't find is this:

how much of my current dash pieces fit into the CRX dash? i have basically, the dash "shell", or dash pad if you will. that's it.

i BELIEVE it's a 90+ dash, my car is an 89 DX h.b.....what am i going to have to locate to complete the dash?

another question that arose, when looking at parts on ebay, was the center console, i know it's different, but what goes in that gapping hole in the middle of it? it's just below the radio hole, or what i'm lead to believe is the radio hole cutout...i could be wrong and it could be for the climate controls...

thanks for the help, sorry if the questions seem stupid, i'm new.

its fro the climate controll.you need the gauge cluster and the whole center consol + air vents and clock? go to a junk yard it will prolly be $50-100 for the rest of it.

Not a whole lot of parts will swap from a HB dash to CRX dash. I would encourage you to keep you current dash and aquire a center console from a newer Integra and swap that in that way you get an armrest and cup holders, something us CRX guys can only dream about

my post was confusing? how so?

thanks for the info...i'm gonna do the swap, just cause. i bought the dash pad for $70 when i first picked up the car, i'm gonna be mad at myself if i just throw it away...not to mention, it's black and my dash is blue... blue dash = teh gay....

will the gauge cluster itself, need to be replaced, or just the bezel around it?

is a CRX cluster going to plug into my harness and work properly?

Maybe me being stupid. but you are trying to put a CRX dash in a Civic? Your civic is 89? And the CRX dash is 90-91?

I'm I right?

I have heard its a lot of work to get them to fit. Whats wrong with your dash?

yes, you are correct.

What's wrong with my dash? nothing, it all works...it's just...

it's blue.

and boring.

the crx dash i have is black and in good shape. and from the looks of it, it's a little nicer looking than the stock dash.

that's all.

edit: i'm about to hit my 5 posts per day limit here...awesome.

general rule of thumb 88-89 are the same and 90-91 are the same.

your going to need the whole dash from a 88-89 crx, including cluster.
I beleive in oreder to run the crx(90-91) cluster you have to repin some wires for the cluster to work right

i can't use the PM feature yet...i'm still a noob.

to make sure it's from a 90-91 crx, how can i tell? are there any differences that i can tell when the dash is bare and has absolutely nothing on it.

The dashes are the same 88-91 the difference is in the gauge cluster, The 88-89 gauges and cover are square, where the 90-91 guages and cluster are bigger and rounded

Alright, let me clear this up. I actually just did this swap around halloween so I know what's needed at what's not. I did a 90 crx dash into my 90 hatchback. It worked out great.

1. You can use your two side vents, they will fit. Mine were broken to begin with so they'll work. But not the center vent. Keep the one on the crx.

2. The clocks are interchangable.

3. The civic glovebox can be used. It'll fit right up.

4. If the civic has tilt, keep the fusepanel. But if not, you'll have to get the crx one cause you'll have to lower your steering column cause the gauges sit lower than the civic one.

5. Your climate controls will fit and so will your radio, even the cigerrate lighter plugs will plug up to your civic.

6. The two door defroster vents are the same on the civic so they can be used.

7. Be sure to get the gauge cluster and do get the metal tabs that hold the cluster on cause the civic ones are taller and bolting it up won't make the cluster fit under the cluster cover.

8. Get all the bolts

9. Everything bolts up fine, it's a flush fit, and it looks awesome.

But Warning: 88-89 crx dashs must be used with the 88-89 civics. The gauge cover is different so is the width of the dash. Somehow the dashs in 88-89 are shorter than 90-91 cause there is a gap at the window and on the passengers door side. Even the clusters are different so just a word of advice, use the years corresponding to your model. In the end, it'll turn out great. Mine did!

ok, that helped a lot more than anything else i've figured out.

how can i for sure tell if it's a 90 dash though? if there's a vin plate still on it, is there a digit i can look at that would tell me (i dont remember if it's still on there or not)...there should be one, but i have no idea what digit it would be...

if there's not a vin, is there another way to tell?

i mean, if i post a picture up, would that help?

if you pull it out of the car look at the frame and read the year.but again, the 88-89 gauge cluster were really boxy and square, the 90-91 are bigger,if you see them side by side you can really tell the diff, its easy to spot.

i didn't pull the dash out of the crx...it was delivered to me from a guy that picked it up in portland....the kid moved, i dont see him anymore.

i also didn't get the dash with a cluster, or cluster bezel...i know what the difference is between the two clusters...but i dont have a bezel from the 'rex for this dash to be able to tell...it's bare.

i'll just have to try it out...and i'm also assuming that i can move tabs and what not to fit my cluster onto it...i can probably move the tabs that the screws would go into that hold the bezel on, as well...
