Has anyone ever installed subs in the 6x9 openings?
I am kind of leaning against eating up my trunk space with a box and amps. For this reason I am looking to put subs in the rear deck where the 6x9's are located. Does an adapter exist or has anyone done this? If not then what 6x9's would give the most bass?
It would be all you, a saw and a day spent ruining your deck lid (or whatever the speakers mount to). You would also need to somehow build an enclosure in that spot or get free air subs. Most likely they will not make the bass you want and you will be mad after wasting all that time.

I don't know of any adapters, but you just need to make tour own out of MDF, you will also need "freeair" subs, [ subs that work in a large airspace] it will also help if you seal up the trunk, [from the inside of the car] as much as you can, that said, I run 4- 6.5" Eclipse 2ways, [ tweets disconected on rears] off an Alpine HU, no amps, in my 94 teg, and I get all the bass I need, http://www.eclipse-web.com

and not everyone has the same listening tastes.....
The biggest problem with putting subs in that location is going to be the torsion bar setup that honda uses to keep the trunk lid open....anything that is deep will hit them, and they are a bitch to remove and replace with struts (like I was going to do when I had a civic).
The only company that I can recall that makes 6x9" free air subs would be kicker. They did this years ago as part of their free-air lineup (6", 6x9", 8, 10, 12, 15 iirc). Who makes any currently - no-one that I'm aware of.
A 10" sub can be thrown in a box that is around 8"x12"x12" - really not that much space when to take a look at it...probably the size of two/three shoe boxes....a much easier installation and you get a lot more choices.
then again if you are creative, you can lose no trunk space, get awesome bass, by doing this:

We do sell Eclipse where I work, but I got mine a long time ago, when they first came out, they are the best sounding speaker I have tryed in my car, [with just deck power] and I have tryed a lot of speakers, and I am not a fan of Eclipse, to many problems with there HU, same gos for there amps, and they sound like ****. I am a fan of Alpine, have been installing Alpine ever since it came out, I think it is still the most trouble free car audio out there and some of the best sounding, [ not that there isn't better car audio out there] [ and not that Alpine didn't have there dogs, do you remember Flex amps
] but all around I pull [for warranty] less Alpine then any brand by far

My first "SPL" system was a Muntz 12track, 2x 6.5", 2x 6x9" and 2x 8" Allan Custom "subs" the highpass amp was a 4x 100watt Precision Power, [not PPI lol] and the low pass amp was a Heathkit 250 watt monoblock, both amps are tube amps that we salvaged out of a church along with the 8" ACs the 4ch amp ran the 4 tower horns, [ church bells] and the monoblock was the PA amp, the 8" were 2 of 20 mid range speakers for the Hammond organ, [ we did take 1 of the 6 36" AC "subs"] also for the Hammond, [ no way to fit it into the 65 chev] the system was plenty loud, can't say much for SQ , [ we are dealing with 8 or 4 track recordings] but I would be willing to bet that I would have crushed the competition at any dB drag lol.
In 30+ years I have had more then a few sound systems in my cars, just not into it anymore, haveing more fun autocrossing my teg, so if it don't make it go faster, handle corners better, or stop quicker I ain't intrested .
