Default Would this be possible?

I was looking at The Jl 6w0, and was thinkin about mounting these where my rear speakers would go, just use sum sound deadning materail as a sealer.. My car is a 97 integra. My goal is to have sum bass but without subs with a box. Run a small amp, would this be possible without "major" Modifaction? or has ne1 ever done this?

This small driver is a true subwoofer with excellent low-frequency extension in very small enclosures. The 6W0 is small enough to be integrated under dashboards, inside custom consoles and in many other applications only limited by your imagination. It is not intended as an infinite-baffle speaker (our XR650-CW component woofer is better suited for that application.)</TD></TR></TABLE>
According to the spec sheet, the 6W0's ahould be in one fo the following enclosures:

Sealed Enclosure Range: 0.15-0.20 cu.ft. (4.3-5.8 liters)
Ported Enclosure Range: 0.20-0.33 cu.ft. (5.8-9.3 liters)

I think it would be interesting to try to make a small enclosure and mount it behind the metal where the plastic speaker mounting brackets go. I wouldn't think the results would be very good doing what you suggest.

Im going to do the same thing in my 01 Teg but with JL8W0's. Build a box for the speakers or else your not going to get the sound your after. Afterall the only real "box" would be the plastic paneling.

sound deadoning material as a sealer? Use it to deaden the sound/vibrations, but not as a sealer. You use weatherstriping to make the seal between the enclosure and the subs.

Simply being able to isolate the back wave from the front would be sufficient for some sound quality. You won't get "sub bass" but it'll sound like a good set of mids. If you wanted to build an enclosure, you can probably get creative with some MDF. Check a cabinet shop and see if you can score some scrap birch plywood, whcih is also an excellent enclosure material. I doubt you'll be able to find this in less than 1/2" thicknesses though. I would think that 1/2" enclosure material is overkill for some 6" or 6.5", you may not have an alternative.

I wouldn't suggest making the enclosure and trim panel a permanent piece. Instead, make the enclosure without a speaker baffle, that is without a front piece of wood with a hole in it for the speaker. Seal the enclosure to the back of the panel (tricky, since that panel probably has curves. Then, mount the speaker to the trim panel with some reinforcement to the enclosure.

I'm sure there's an easier way!
