B18CR TYPE-R swap into my Honda Civic Wagovan
Hi, I'm looking to do a B18CR TYPE-R swap into my civic wagovan. I am wondering if anyone has done this before on their wagon.
I need to know a couple of things:
1. does this particular engine fit and mount ok within the hood line without causing any closure problems? what kind/type/brand of motor mounts should I get?
2. what parts do I need to install the motor? besides the motor? (I was thinking of changing the timing belt and water pump while I have easy access to it before I do the install, preparing for less headache later on)
3. what parts do I need to install the hydraulic tranny? my current tranny is the old cable tranny. the B18CR TYPE-R has a hydraulic tranny, will it fit and work perfectly fine in my wagon? what do I need to make this happen correctly?
4. the motor will come with an ECU, do I have to change this ECU or can I continue to use it in my car after the swap?
5. how does ODBII effect my smog emissions?
6. alot of places are selling engines left and right, but how can you verify the correct mileage on them? I'm sure there's alot of scammers out there trying to sell you a 60,000 plus mile motor and claim only 30,000..
what can you do about this?
thanks!
good luck to that one, it'd be fun to do, but my advice is do some searchin on the net, a lot of that in fact and you should be able to answer some of your questions.
Well first you need to find you a b series cable tranny. From what I have heard the Ys1 is the best (correct me if I am wrong). You will need mounts, wiring harness, ecu, shift linkage, axles.
about the milage, you really can only take their word for it cause they can tell you whatever they want. hmotorsonline.com seems to be the best place to buy from.

1. ?
2. Do the h2o pump and timing belt. You need mounts, 90-93 DA shift linkage, and some engine harness plugs.
3. hasport cable to hydro kit
4. I'd convert to obd 1 and run a p28 ecu with hondata.
5. Forget about obd 2 it's not worth the hassle. obd 1
6. I don't know about this one. I'd rebuild it so mileage wouldn't matter.

1. I don't know about a wagovan. But in a CRX or HB, the engine does interfere slightly with the hood. Most swappers have to cut away the webbing under the hoo in the vicinity of the valve cover. This is not too difficult, though. But there is always that chance that even doing this might not create enough clearance. I couldn;t tell you for sure. You will have to either find someone who has done a B18C (GSR or ITR) swap into a Wagovan and ask them. Or you can take a chance and find out for yourself.
2. You need quite a few parts, including a mount kit and shift linkage. Given the possible consequences of not doing so, I would definitely replace the timing belt and water pump. And check the tensioner while you are at it. If in doubt, replace it.
3. To install a hydraulic transmission, you will need Hasport's hydraulic conversion kit.
4. If the motor is a pre-1999 JDM model, it is not too hard to wire up the ECU, as it is basically an OBDI ECU with OBDII plugs. 1999+ ECUs are MUCH more difficult to wire up.
5. If you use the pre-1999 JDM ECU, it is not really OBDII. But if you want a BAR legal setup, you will need to run the USDM OBDII ECU. This will require the addition of a few sensors (including a VTEC pressure switch and second oxygen sensor) as well as a USDM intake manifold (the JDM manifold doesn't accommodate a purge valve).

IMO....you can install the hydro tranny. You will have to source the slave cylinder and you might be able to use hydraulic line from an EG. You can also get your own line and bend it with a tubing bender to fit your application. I plan on converting my EF to hydraulic in the future, It's up tp you if you want to convert it over.

Unless you are trying to save money, why go through all this when you can get the Hasport kit now?
