New With Accords Who Can Help?
im looking into getting a 1988 accord and i was wondering if they were worth buying. its a 5 speed 166k on it. i duno to much about them so if anyone could help me out please let me know thankx
Depends on the price, how it runs, etc.. If its a good deal, I would pick it up. If you want to make it a project car, there are swaps that you can do on the 3rd gens.

Yea 3rd gens are A20A1 (carb'd - DX and LX) and A20A3 (EFI - LX-i and SE-i). Motors are absolutely bulletproof, as well as pretty much all the rest of the car (except maybe the sheetmetal.... typical Honda rust spots). But if you can find a 3rd gen in good shape that's been well cared for, it'll last you a long long time to come. 166k is nothing on a 3rd gen.... they'll run forever and a day! (I've still got that beat by almost 200k! hahah)
so i take it that there pretty good cars an oh its $850 and i havn;t looked at it yet i was just looking into them before i thought about buying it
So there are not many bolt-on aftermarket parts for the A20A3 then?
Just curious, cuz I was thinking about gettin an 88 LX-i hatch myself.

Little to ablsolutely nothing. A series engines have almost no aftermarket support, I mean really, there aren't very many accords of that age. Not to mention most that are still rolling, are owned by older people and they're not into the whole modification scene

i know there's at least intakes and headers out there... (unless they stopped producing them altogether). exhaust isn't a big deal, since you can always have one custom made. springs and struts are available too. don't remember if anything else...
intake manifolds from the b series will work on an a series with a couple redrilled holes... that opens up a few things... diamond makes pistons, and we can get eagle rods... several companies regrind our camshafts... 2 companies make headers... pacesetter, and another that i can't remember right now... GC, and others make coilovers, and quite a few companies make lowering springs... tokico makes struts, along with bilstien... the bilstiens need revalving to be a good strut for stiff springs, though... ST and addco make sway bars, and a few people at 3geez make strut tower braces... brake upgrades for civics and tegs fit with minor modification...
in good shape, these cars are very worth buying... i payed $550 for mine, with very minor rust... i have had to do some serious repairs to it, but i still haven't spent more than $1000 on it... yeah, if it's in good shape, go for it... if it's rusting more than just a little, or doesn't run that great, don't buy it... like Jared said, he has near 400,000 miles on his car (i've seen this for myself), and it still runs like new...
