I have a SERIOUS problem with chirping upshifts too hard.
Tonite when I was racing pyrochaos38 from a stop, as I shifted into 2nd I chirped/spun the tires so hard that MY SPEEDOMETER BROKE! and I got the Check Engine Light (code 17). It would hang limp at like 20 mph, then sit at 0 MPH as I'm traveling 55 after that violent "chirpage". But it stayed messed up like that for almost 10 minutes! The RPM gauge was fine I believe. When I was almost to Phat GS-R's house as I downshifted and turned onto another road it fixed itself.
This is the second time it has happened too. Last time it happened was when I shifted into 3rd about a couple months ago and chirped hard and the speedometer broke for about 20 seconds only and then fixed itself.
This can't be too healthy an occurence...anyone ever have this happen to them? I wonder how the sudden jarring of the car can cause this...?

its possible your VSS is loose. there is only one bolt that holds it in, and I actually broke off that little bolt one time... the sensor came loose after that, and the speedo went to 0 and I got a CE light.
reach down behind your tranny and look for two small hoses that go into your tranny. grab those and pull up and down on them. thats your VSS, and if it wiggles, then its fucked up.

well it works fine now....it temporarily breaks when this happens....so i guess its fine....maybe my vehicle speed sensor is just more "beat up" than it should be

I know from experience..
First tranny, 2nd gear syncro was shot in no time, 5th gear grind, Reverse went out after a miss shift
Second tranny, sycnros going out in 2,3,5th gears.. All because of track racing ( I am hard on ****)
Third tranny is fine, so far...
They are not bulletproof, if you are hard on them, get ready to spend some $
