Default Stripped Allen head on strut

I'm taking off my springs right now and I stripped the allen wrench part, It was the right wrench, when I put it in, it didn't move, the wrench was tight, but when I tried to get the 14mm nut off, it stripped.

what are some ways to fix this? I was thinking re-threading it and putting a bolt in there or something. any ideas? without having to buy a new strut? thanks

What I would do in this situation is take a dremmel and grind off the sides on the top of the thread, that way you can hold it with a pair of vice grips. That shaft is probably to thin to re-thread the inside.

I always use air tools to loosen it, sometimes I use the allen after the bolt is loose. Really a generic design, so you don't wanna put torque on it.

u can go take the shock to a local auot shop and have them hit the 14 mm nut with an impact gun. that should get the 14mm nut off. make sure u compress the spring first if u have the stock springs. a vice grip might and probably will strip the threads even more. just have a shop remove it. if ur install n lowering springs, then bring the spring with u so they can screw down the 14mm with an impact gun

best one yet...using a vice grip will ruin ur strut. ie- threads, or if u are the ones that like to grab the actuall rod to hold it, yah u ruin it there too. lol, best one to just ake it too the shop n have them zap dat fuka off
