Default Stripped valve cover bolt *PIC*

Today I took out my valve cover gasket to check my timing belt, when I put back on my valve cover gasket I overtightened one of the bolts and now it broke off. Is it still going to be safe driving like this for awhile? How can i replace the bolt? The washer probably wont stay on because the bolt is not there? Thanks guys.

don't quote me on this, but I think it should be fine if you drive carefully, maybe just some oil leakage. if it's ok to drive, take it to a machine shop and have them take that **** out. that way you don't have to go buy a set of ez-outs and run the risk of damaging your head. and your local acura dealership has all the nuts and washers you could dream of!

wow we have superman up in here, eh?
anyways it should be fine, but you'll wanna replace that sooner or later, if you take off the valve cover, there may be some exposed thread that you can pinch and unscrew?

Don't make this harder than it really is. It's not a big deal. You can drive your car but oil will leak out. Go to your local performance shop that works on Hondas/Acuras and get a replacement. They will most definitly have a replacement. Just take your valve cover off and use a 10mm box end wrench to remove the broken bolt and replace with the new one. Once you take the valve cover back off you will understand what I am talking about. A WRENCH WILL REMOVE THAT BROKEN STUD.

c'mon guys. u want him to take his car tp a shop for such an EASY fix???? just remove the valve cover, take a deep 10mm socket or open wrench and unscrew the broken stud. then install a new one. just go pick one up at ur local honda/acura dealer for a few bucks

these bolts dont need to be super tight. they snap very easy. just tighten it hand tight. u dont gotta be superman and tighten it like crazy. also when u retighten the valvecover, start from the middle and work out in a cross pattern.

also dont drive around with the washer like that. it will fall out! just remove it and plug it with some rubber for the mean time. u can probably leave it off if u fix the problem soon

also, make sure you buy the right stud. there are longer and shorter ones. i think you broke the shorter stud, they go for around 3-5 bucks i think at the dealership.

Any hardware/auto store will have it. You'll basically drill out the broken part of the screw and use the tap to either fix up the threads or make new ones and use a screw with the same thread pitch and size. Search "tap/tapping" on here and you should find the procedures.

I think its bigger than a 10 though(not that it really matters). I wouldn't drive it like that myself. I think that piece is closer t $10-15 at honda. But get it fixed quick..

dude, this is so simple you can fix this in 10 minutes...

see how that stud protrudes through the cover? that means its long enough to lock a pair of vice grips on and screw it right off.

First remove the cover real quick,

all u need is to get 1 stud,& 1 nut and a pair of vice grips.

lock the grips and unscrew, then re install new one, and your done

Enough of the vice grips, EZ-outs, drilling, clamps, and muscle it off talk.

To replace the stud, you remove the valve cover and use either a 10mm deep socket & ratchet or a 10mm 6pt box wrench to remove (and install) the stud from the cam cap.

It's a 5 minute job.

Damn these bolts seem to snap on alot of people. Thing to remember is tighten them a little bit, no need to go hulk on it

Either way I hate these kind of BS happening, try to do a little bit of DIY and something always seem to go wrong

Easy job. Just remove the valve cover and get a 10mm socket or open-ender onto it like a few people have already said.
