Default WTF

i had valve job done and replaced all gaskets seals timing belt water pump plugs wires rotor. i finally started it up today it ran well. but i had a jumpy tach so i got a new coil. first i put in my new axle then changed the coil. the car now doesnt crank at all the brake lite stays on and the top 2 left cluster lites are extremly dim. so i put the old coil in that i know starts the car and its the same thing. so i replace starter and i get same results. i notice the fule pump doesnt prime but the radio headlites ect all work. im completely frustrated its been a month long project and help u guys can offer would be great

Did something silly like a ground wire come loose? Even something that might have been loosend and not quite tightened from the first round of work? Maybe the ground that goes to the frame above the drivers headlight and splits on the valve cover?

If your fuel pump doesnt prime it may be your main relay..
punch the relay with a and try and start the car..

it doesn't crank, or it doesn't start. if it is turning over and not starting make sure the the rotor is still screwed into the dizzy. i had this problem once and the damn screw fell out of the rotor.

I think u said it doesnt CRANK at all. IF thats the case, check the ground from the tranny to frame. Clean the mounting points and make sure its tight. Check the resistance if u can. NEXT, check the battery connections. Again, clean the posts and make sure they are tight. You can also try a good known battery, if the above fails.

Actually in that event it would crank, and then start the ground wire on fire.

Been there, done that.

I have too. Go out and try to start your car without that specific ground. In my case, nothing caught on fire...lol...it just wouldnt crank. You would also get funny lights illuminationg on the cluster while tryin to crank (as in its searching for a ground). How can it start a ground wire on fire if (A) it has bad connections or (B) its missing ?

Right after we swapped a dx motor into a car, just to get it running, it had a bad ground connection so he cranked it and the wire got hot, started melting, then smoke started creeping up the wire. Thats kinda what I meant when I said it started fire.

do you get any check engine lights? tell us all the items you fiddled with for any reason at all since the last time it ran.

have someone sit in the car with the clutch in, key held in the start position.. jump the started solenoid manually with 12V either from the batt or from the hot wire on the starter motor. if nothing, take the starter out and have autozone or whoever run it on their machine.. replace if need be.

somehow, i dont think its the starter though. fuel pump is tied to pgmfi-main relay which gets signal from ecu. faulty relay, faulty ecu, faulty ecu ground, main relay ground, etc. mess with any of that stuff?

Wait a min, you said you had a jumpy tach and replaced your coil. I think you got it confused with the ignitor. Usually when you have an irratic tach it means your ignitor is taking a dump. What I think happened is your ignitor finally gave up and replacing your coil has no affect at all. Replace your ignitor, that could very well fix your problem. hth

Yep, check the ignitor.
Also, with the starter giving you problems...Im going through the same thing....but mine is a crappy ground on the negative terminal on the battery. I see corrosion all on it. Clean your grounds.
