Safe rev when cold
i know its getting to be around winter time and i was just kinda wondering what is a safe rev before the motor is fully warmed up. now its taking longer and longer before the motor warms up and i was just wondering what is the safest so i don't mess anything up.
I don't take mine anything above 3k till the temp gauge has been at normal operating temp for about 5 mins or so... You gotta think, if the temp needle just finally peaked, then the oil temp is prolly still pretty cool, considering coolant warms faster than oil...
I'm normally a real baby about this. I like to have the car sit on for a few minutes before I even move it outta my driveway after a cold night or anything.

Same here, i dont drive it til the temp needle pass the line or til the idle goes down to 750 - 800rpm

exactly right. ur coolant temp is warmed to normal but yet your oil is still cold. i stay below 3 grand every time unless ive been runnin my car for a while. i live in williamsport, pa so its gettin cold and all i do is drive to school and work. just to be safe and take car of your car dont push it above 3 or 4 unless ur running it more than 10 min.

word....when i get up at 7 to pick up my girl and dont have time to sit and pick my nose and wait for my motor to warm up..i drive and shift through every gear at 2500k....after about 5 minutes i start taking it a little higher....i mean be careful...but also think these motors are very durable...they can take a *light* beating

Start your car up after its been sitting over night and free rev it to 8k until its warm. Let us know what you find out.
On a serious note. Unnecessary wear and tear on your bearings, rings, valve train, well let's just say every moving part inside the motor.

not all that far from my neck of the woods...
but if you actually like your car don't drive it till it warms up then you don't have to worry about it...

Letting your car sit to warm up causes carbon buildup. Just drive it. That's what its made to do. If you can't drive your car when its cold and you're worried about breaking something in the process, then you've got problems. Just keep it around 3000rpm until the temp needle gets into the normal range.
the manual says 1 minute for warm up, i would do at least one minute always, but take it easy with the revs, as well as throttle, more load means more blowby and the rings and the pistons and rings arent filling in all the gaps until it is warmed up

how about temperatures in the 20's? i just start it, wait for about 3-5 minutes, and then drive off. i shift as it's just about to hit 3000rpm. am i doing stuff right? or should i change my habits?

I would never do that in a car that I cared about, but I pretty much start it up and drive away, redline shifting... it get's warm real quick then..
