Have any of you out there got a homegrown turbo set up?
For Example: a Volvo turbo with a HF mani, or a Eclipse turbo with a custom mani, etc.
Tell us what you've done..
Pro's? Cons? Etc...

My last setup was a d16y8 with

Ford Thunderbird turbo
Saab downpipe flange
Mitsu injectors and blow off
everything else was custom

my buddy and i had one on a d16a6. it had 3 different setups.
1. t25 <----died up top
2. t3/t4<----way to big for my liking (custom mani)
3. 14b <----20psi...oooopps.

we had each of those turbos with...
hf mani
custome adapter plate
ghetto *** ic piping
1st gen dsm bov
johnnyracecar ic
dsm 450's
and all street tuned with turbo edit

that **** ripped for what it was. we spent a little over 300 bucks, and it was fun as hell. i just helped my other buddy finish is hmt zc, and that thing is faster than the other setup. hmt...

PROS. you save a lot of money you get to do everything yourself, so when someone ask you about you engine you dont have to guess, plus you learn as you go, plus make you proud of your work.

CONS: if you dont do it right the first time you lose money, and you wont have warranty on the work.

but either way I will never pay another mechanic to do the same thing I can do... reseach and you can do anything... HMT, UBERDATA FORUM, PGMFI its all in your face. and always remember HMT owns all forums

btw heres a copy of my dyno sheet

 

Here's a set up I made out of a turbocoupe T3. I made the manifold, downpipe and dumptube for it.

I'm selling this set up BTW.

i have a P28 here chipped.. ready to step up the management a notch.
