What car is this motor from?
My buddy bought a motor from a place called kwatanabe its going into hi 88 4dr.
The motor is supossed to be JDM. The block reads D15b and came with dual carbs. What we are doing is swapping all the parts from his car to the new block and head but I noticed that on the head where the VTEC solenoid is supposed to go there is an opening like if the solenoid was removed. I laso noticed that the head stamp for the year reads 8/6 which led me to believe that the motor came of an 1986 vehicle. If anyone knows what car this motor is from and about how much power it produces it would help us out. Oh and why is there an opening in the vtec solenoid location? Thanks. We might convert it to mpfi If the motor has any potential.

As for 4th gen civics: the D15B4 and D14A1 came with 2 carbs but was def not vtec. They came in the JDM XT model as a low-end option I think. Maybe it's a D15B4 with a mini-me but kept the carbed manifold? Looks like you got a sloppy mess on your hands.
You could look into 3rd gen civic engines, maybe that's what you have, but that still wouldn't explain the VTEC thing.
one big
for that

Still doesnt explain why it says D15b the guy that sold us the motor said it was the same, we have compared everything and changed everything from the water pump to the rear and all seals and have used those for a usdm 1.5 and everything has worked fine. ????? Damn these JDM engines.

I have a D15b4 Dual Carb, it's an AUDM motor that came in the ED6 civic hatch. Goes fine, something around 95HP when new, I enjoy mine plenty. It does say D15B4 on the block, I have no idea if it has a hole where the vtec solenoin should be. If you give me a picture of it I can tell you if it's the same motor. Here's a picture of mine http://www.clan-lt.com/uploads...e.jpg (361kb), see if it matches (header isn't stock).

the 2nd gen jdm cr-x 1.5x had a d15b
it's a twin carb 1.5 with about 105hp and a 95lb/ft torque at 4500
the 1.5x was a nippy little car as it only weighed about 850kgs

hmm I've seen that on those motors they have a mech fuel pump that goes on the dist. side and near the intake manifold. If its going into a EFI car you need to make a block off plate.
All it does is ride on the cam and creates vacuum to pump fuel.
