so my b16 swap is finished and in my DA. however i'm not sure what's goin on w/ the cooling system.

first off...the car has yet to actually been driven. only idled and revved in place (due to needing an axle. so i'm not sure if the car would overheat or not. as of now...it only goes to a little under half way on the gauge.

so initially the lines felt cold and such...so i changed the t-stat (which WAS bad, stuck shut). so i ran the car for a little bit right now (about 15-20 minutes) and once at temp, the gauge stayed right under half. however after a while i revved to 2k, then 3k and held steady at each for a bit to simulate driving. the car didn't overheat, but the fans NEVER cycled. a small amount of smoke started to come from the front of the block or the radiator ( i couldn't tell which), but it seemed that coolant/oil from the swap was just burning off. so here are the symptoms...

fans don't cycle
no heat in bottom hose (like when a thermostat is bad)
VERY SMALL amount of smoke

let me know what you guys think. i'm going to try burping the coolant in a bit.

 

You may just not have enough temperature in it yet for the fans to cycle. If you're concerned about it, try disconnecting the 2 pin connector at the fan switch (If I'm not mistaken, it's at the thermostat housing) and use a jumper wire and jump the connector and see if the fan comes on. If the fans work, great. If fans still don't come on, you may have left something disconnected or have a fan failed.

Remember that the fan switch will only turn on the fans at a temp of approx. 196-198 degrees so you may just not get enough heat in engine letting it idle without putting a load on it.
