What do I need? 2 Channel VS 4 Channel? Amping Speakers??
My brother has a DA integra with some crap audio (1 blown speaker, 2 crackling in the back) his deck is the only quality item in the car right now.
So for Christmas I wanted to get him a decent audio set-up BUT NO sub because I don't have the $$.
I need (4) 6.5" and I have been looking at...
Infinity Kappa 62.5i - peak power of 225
Infinity Ref 6002i - peak power of 180 watts
I am also looking for an amp.....and I am not sure if I need 4 channel or 2 channel? I def don;t need a top of th eline amp, something reliable and that will push the speakers to give better sound quality and a little but of bass (right now there is none)
thanks for the help

If that is not enough power, then maybe add a 2 x 30 to 50 watt amp to the front speakers, although you will be surprised at how good the Eclipse sound without an amp. http://www.eclipse-web.com
BTW I am an installer and have been for the last 30+ years

Hmmm thats def a thought, its an older model kenwood HU but its in mint condition, although I am not sure how high powered it is
I will def check that first
I guess my main question was with a 4 channel amp you can amp all 4 speakers right and then with a 2c hannel amp do you just amp the back and front as a set or do I have to amp just the fronts and just the backs?

With th 2ch all 3 ways will work, [just the back, just the fronts, or front and back] that said, if you are going with a 2ch, then amp the fronts only, use deck power for the rears, just for rear fill, if you want to amp all 4 then use a 4ch so you can adjust the gain on the fronts higher then the rears, BTW on my rear Eclipse 6.5" 2ways I have disconnected the tweeters, I get much better stageing and imageing.

i'd say get him a set of speakers for the front and a nice little 2 channel amp, dont worry about the rears, if the fronts are properly installed then you dont need rears.
unless its a DVD hu from kenwood, your looking at the usual 50 watt peak to each channel that is really like 15-17RMS if that... so you are not a high output. not close. though I guarantee its a pretty clean sound hehe
hmmm all these are good suggestion yeah coolblue you are right, it is just 45 peak on his deck...so looks like an amp is needed
So this is a conclusion i have come to and audio people please correct me
(2) midbass speakers amped up front
(2) Infinity speakers in the rear NOT amped
OR
(2) 3 ways up front amped
(2) 2 ways in the rear NOT amped

good amped 3 ways will give you plenty of high and low at volume, so it sounds about right, as for staging... in my coupe, the rear is almost always seemingly louder, Ive amped all of the speakers, and short of turning the fade to the front a LOT... it will remain that way... But sound from the front for proper staging isnt exactly what I was going for, ive got 2 ways in front, with factory tweeters... dont count them... and 3 ways in the rear... the rear is more powerful as well, as most larger speakers are... so rather than waste the power I have the speakers set up to be about equal. its a nice full sound, and it makes it loud and clear inside without pushing any one set of speakers to its breaking point.
The staging thing is preference, however if my 6x9s were in front and 6.5s in back, I would prefeer it too, it however is not a big deal unless you have video in there...
In short... if you have the better speakers in the front, AWESOME, easy choice, amp the fronts up, and run rear off headunit.
