Default cam gear on sohc d16z6

i bought a used str cam gear from a friend last week... we put it on two nights ago and we advanced the timing to 5 degrees... now i was reading in hci mag. this month and they did a similar setup to a sohc too... but they did somthing to the ignition timing??? so am i gonna mess up my motor ??? this would be great cuz this car is a daily driver!!!

If you advanced the cam you have advanced your timing as well. So it is possible that you could be damaging your motor.

Check your timing after you make adjustments to your gear.

dude put it back to 0 before u **** something else and bent some valves

5 degrees is over 1/2 cam tooth gear wich translates into about 10 crank degrees

u shall always advance the timing about 1-2 degrees at a time and tune it to avoid hitting pistons to valves, or overlap
