I am about to go pick up an exhaust for my itr, should I get it or not, Please help
Its a used Tanabe G medalion, I think(one with the big can). It is in great shape and they are asking 350 for it. Full cat-back. Does anyone have this and do you like it? ALso, is that a good price? Thanks
there's no point for you to get an exhaust as your first mod...it won't do anything for you...I'd wait until you get more mods before you get an exhaust
Spend your money where it will actually make a difference. Get an intake or header first.
Save your money. The best mod for the money is a JDM header, and carsound cat. The exhaust wont do jack.....

Jason's right. Don't get that exhaust - well, at least not yet. Leave it stock. If you're not producing "really good" horsepower numbers, the exhaust is probably gonna look funny to those ITRs with stock exhaust blowing your doors off
Look at it like this, unless your going turbo the stock exhaust is fine. Its creating enough backpressure to give you good low end touque. Without the backpressue from the exhaust you'll be losing plenty down low and only gaining alittle top end.
I have a mugen twin-loop which is design to give back pressure while still giving me some top end power. I would suggest getting an N/A exhaust (not a turbo one like the tanabe) or just staying stock!

Get an intake (or K&N filter + ghetto homemade CAI like me) first.
You won't get a lot out of the cat-back. It'll just change your powerband slightly. More top-end, but less low-end.

What I want to know is where this phenomena originated? Who started the saying, "back pressure increase low end torque."?
Gas velocity gives you your low end torque your talking about and not back pressure. Smaller diameter piping increase gas velocity. Look at how the Mugen vented hood works on a DC2R, the flow of the wind above the reverse opening of the hood sucks the hot air out of the engine bay.
If increasing back pressure gave me more torque, I'd plug up my header collector and get 300 ft-lbs of torque

I would not do a aftermarket exhaust, it is a waste of money at this stage of the game, get a Header First, then build from there
""probably gonna look funny to those ITRs with stock exhaust blowing your doors off""
YEAH I'd laugh
YEAH I'd laugh
...Hey, I was going to snap at you too for that old V8 comment until I saw D got you first... the back pressure myth was started way before most of the board members were born... If you really want to know the hows and whys it is a myth do a search... there was a pretty good size post on the matter some time ago...
Also, there is another myth that I've believed in for some time until recently... "the OE ITR exhaust is not restrictive until around 200whp"... WRONG... let me say that I was wrong again... wrong. It necks down to 2" at three(if I remember correctly) places... After a 2.5" collector header and cat, then intake with fuel tuning, it might be the next good step in a "right" direction for the bolt on enthusiest(sp?)...
