eg hatch eating up oil like its water *HELP*
I just purchased this eg hatch awhile ago and the owner did tell me that it eats up oil... and that he puts in a quart every thousand miles or so. Well i just changed my oil about 6-8 hundred miles ago and i check the oil alot to make sure its not to low. I checked the oil today and saw that it was very low.. about half of what it should be so i added in more oil. It doesn't leak oil anywhere nor do i smell any burnt oil. Anyone know what i can do to stop or slow it down a bit? Also my rear bumper is covered in dark dust from the exhaust... whats the reason for that? and anyway to help out that?
Thanks for the info from whoever can help

Do you have a cat?? If not you can get the black soot **** on ur bumper..... Ive heard b4 if rings are bad you will get that nasty oil blow and it will be all over ur bumper and eat oil like its it job.
yea the car has a cat... i just think its because the car is somewhat old and most old cars eat up oil and produce the black residue from the exhaust but i just wanted to see if there is anything i can do about it to stop or lessen it. ITs a 95 cx hatch with 120,xxx miles
my 94 ex with 146k miles doesnt do that.... it eats a little oil... but not much at all..... im guessing rings are bad...... and theres that motor honey or somthin that supposed to stop smoke etc.... u might want to try that...
any idea what the motor honey is or where i can get it. ITs been about 750 miles since i did the oil change and i already put in 2.5 eatra quarts because of the low oil level. The engine holds 3.5 so within the 750 miles i have driven so far I have poured 6 quarts already. Smoke is more apparent now coming out of the exhaust. Anyone know what could be wrong with my car? IT drives fine and all just the oil eating and exhaust smoke problem.

1 quart per 1000 miles isn't too bad . . . my CRX goes through that easily. I just check the level often and carry a bottle with me to top it off whenever needed.
Your car is burning it, which is why you are getting black oily soot all over your rear bumper. 1qt/1000mi isn't all that much oil, so you aren't exactly going to see giant clouds of blue smoke billowing behind you . . . my CRX doesn't smoke at all.
Time for new pistons/rings and a hone job . . . or a new engine.

Well, that is definitely a big problem then. I didn't read the entire thread first, so I missed that, and I missed you mentioning the excessive smoke.
Like some others suggested, do a compression check and leak-down test.
Rings are not something you can just replace by yourself in a weekend, considering you have to tear the entire engine down. With as much oil as you are burning though, I doubt new rings and a hone job will help. Your best bet would probably be to have it bored over and install oversized pistons. Or if you don't want to rebuild, buy another engine and swap it.

Rings and valve seals cause that problems for sure. Valve seals are cheap but kinda hard to change if you dont remove the head. and rings well thats a whole different story but if you want to keep the car tear it down and rebuild then its like brand new.
Replace the piston rings and valve seals. Your getting oil into your combustion chamber. Do yourself a favor also and check your coolant for oil type residue in it or merkiness.
Head gasket could be worn too.
