So the "myths" go. Personally I like shorter geared trannies for both boosted and N/A cars

FACT is if you want long *** gears or if you like to get wonderful gas mileage, then get a longer geared tranny. If you want to wrap through the gears faster (hence faster acceleration and speed) then get a short geared tranny.

i ran both configurations...shorter gears felt faster, gas milage went down though...i dont understand how people think longer gears are faster for boost? with shorter gears, you have a higher mechanical advantage, thats why we even have gears to begin with

Longer gears = higher top speed, but slowed acceleration.

so it boils down to, u wanna get going quick? shorter gears. u wanna go faster longer? longer gears. i like the ls gear set on a 4.4 FD. its quick but not to quick. i believe 1-3 are the same but 4th and 5th are a bit longer than both gsr and b16. or maybe its just 1st and 2nd, i forget. but anyways. hybrid trannies are the ****.

the thought behind this is that you will remain in your powerband longer, because you wont have to shift as soon. i think it is most peoples way of justifying that they're long geared tranny(LS) is ok since they have a turbo. you will be faster with a shorter geared tranny though.
