WHAT IS THE BEST TEG AUTO TRANNY TO BUILD FOR TURBO?
my customer wants to keep his auto setup in his 00' Teg LS, after the engine build, Hondata, and turbo kit we will be pushing say 300-400 hp attw (on manual counterpart) not sure what that would equal out to on the auto tranny. I suggested to just swap to manual but that is not what the customer wants. I have looked into Level 10, and IPT transmissions. Does anyone know anything about either and/or have any suggestions or info? John at IPT told me that the trans that is in that year teg is not the strongest of the Honda B-series auto trannys, he said that he is not sure right off the top of his head which would be the best to go with but he was pretty sure that the one that is in it is not the best one to go with. Does anyone know wich one would be the best to start with? Next question is about the OBD status swap and the hondata system. Boomslang told me that they can make a custom harness that would allow the obd1 ecu setup to shift the obd2 tranny properly. Has anyone messed with this at all and if so do you have any suggestions or info that may be usefull?
You should just slap someone for wanting to make that much power with a turbo and keep a auto tranny!
Tell him, Honda auto tranny's aren't like Chevy's and that everyone makes a performance version of it!

the idea of an auto trans in a hihg power car is consitancy in the 1/4 mile. someone took an SRT4 which only came in 5 speeds worked it and dropped and auto trans in it and from what i hear he's really damn consistant...
auto transmissions have their advantages. i heard from a tech at the Honda dealership that in a turbo car for instance (like a WRX) in a auto setup the turbo is always on and doesn't shut off in between shifts due to the fact that the tranny shifts by a computer. VS> a manual where you might have the off the line advantage and other things, but when you shift the turbo shuts off or something along those lines?? that's just a penny for your thoughts
A manual tranny will still be faster than an auto tranny.
Its easy to see why a auto would give you consistency, ****, put a robot in the seat and it'll get even better! I mean, no thought to shifting is needed in drag racing an auto, besides when to punch the gas pedal and steer slightly.
When shifting a manual trans, you have to take your foot off the gas pedal, which lets the BOV blow off boost and you to shift gears. As soon as you hit the gas, you have power back. Its like instant on, since the engine revs are still high.
You can do away with that, just by having Hondata, since they have shift without lift.

Sorry but not. An auto tranny will be faster than a 5speed. Its a proven fact. Go out and look at a true drag setup. Some of the highest horsepower and fastest Supras are running autos. There is an exception and there are I believe 2 guys running 6speeds that really know how to drive. But its still proven that an auto will go faster. Lingenfelter went from something like a 9.1 to a 8.9 with a turbo vette just switching to a built auto tranny.
