H23 boost question
Ok, I've been jumping from board to board trying to get some info on boosting a H23 Vtec hybrid and so far I'm hitting a few snags along with some conflicting information. So here's the scoop, top to bottom. I've bought a Garrett T25 turbo charger and downpipe from a friend of mine who needed cash and let it go cheap. The trouble is, the internal wastegate is preset at 10 PSI and there's nothig I can do to adjust it. It's my complete intention to leave the bottom half of the engine, the H23, stock as I can not afford to build it up and from what I understand the compression ratio is perfect for turbo charging anyway. So here' the question, point blank, how much boost can a stock bottom end H23 sustain? Will it be able to handle the 10psi of pressure that this turbo is going to kick off due to the waste gate? If not, what can I do to fix this problem? I'm brand new to this board but Prelude's are pretty common creatures to me having owned three of two different generations. If anyone has an answer to the above questions please let me know before I do something dumb and sacrifice the engine as a result. Thanks

either just pick up a different wastegate diaphram, im sure you can find one for sale at a lower boost level, or just keep it a 10 psi and get a redonkulously good tuner and get it runed right,
if it were me, i wouln't run more than 7 on my daily driver.

yeah i wouldnt boost a lude with out it done right ie sleeves, rods, pistons, redone crank and all the good bolts and bearings. if u do boost just dont rev it that high shift at like 55 to be safe

don't discourage the man, it can be done if done right, look up a user firedrake, he has been boosting on a stock motor for a while now i think at 12 pounds, but he has MANY hours of tuning in it, and the correct fuel managment

After looking further into it I've decided against boosting the H23/Vtech, I've got enough of a projct ahead just building that thing as it stands, thankfully I got around that external oil line BS that I kept hearing about. I've had another thought however and I"m not ready to give up on this tubo charger yet. Im curious as to how well it will work on an F20A. I've got one installed in the car now that's holding the place of the original F22 which spun a bearing. I hadn't planned on using the engine after the hyrbrid is completed but now that I've got this turbo it might be an option for the F20A. Any thought or ideas??

to me the f20 sounds like a better idea. especially since it has iron sleeves allready and they are disposable like the the d series. i say put an h23 head on that bitch and boost the hell out of it
i just got an f22a7 and i think thats what i am gonna do eventually

H23 head huh? Not a bad idea but will it bolt right onto an F20A singe cam block? If so, then I'm in buisness as I happen to have a spare (dead) H23 in my garage. I had planned on rebuilding it as it only has a spun main, but if the combination works outfor a turbo then I may just go that direction.
