Default h23 good for boost?

what are the internal specs of the h23a1? CR, bore/stroke (anyone know a reputable website to get this kinda info from)? just curious if it is good to turbo, like what it can handle on stock internals and if anyone on here has a turbo h23. if they do, what kind of numbers are you seeing from this motor?

thanks for the info.

see sig. Those numbers were on a stock engine. I should have some new ones on my built engine soon. There are a couple of us h23 turbo guys on here. Main things to know about turbo h23 - ringlands are weak and can't take boost like the b-series can and you can't run forged aftermarket pistons without resleeving.

so how would i remedy the weak ringlands. please excuse my ignorance on what those are, i'm still learning all i can. would this motor be better to boost than my stock f22b1? i mean i wouldn't see the numbers you got at 10 psi on an f22 would I? that's pretty amazing you can run 10 psi on stock internals. was that from just the turbo kit?

How come you can't run aftermarkt pistons withough resleeving? is that just something unique to the h23, or does that go for most other motors as well?

and how do these people keep running more torque on their motor than they do hp? i know niedejb has a turbo f22 with 253hp/264 ft-lbs at 13psi. how do they do it?

Honda's H-series motors have a unique cylinder lining that doesn't take well to forged pistons. There's a few HUGE threads on it, search on it.

As for the turbo setups, I remember reading about someone with an F22 turbo that made some pretty good numbers. I believe it was in an Acura CL? So they're not "weak" as some people think.

Any motor can make good power with some good tuning. You have to know your limits and stay within that "safe" zone.

thanks for the info. by the way, what is the compression ratio on the h23a1?

yes the Acura CL is niedejb's. but how did he manage to make more torque than horsepower? that's what i want to know.

The H23a1's CR is 9.8:1. Bore and stroke of 87 x 95mm.

The F22a1 is around 8.8:1 CR and bore/stroke of 85 x 95mm. As for niedejb's CL, I'm thinking it has something to do with his turbo selection and tuning. Do you happen to have his dynochart? How broad was his powerband, and what did it peak at?

THANX! A little bit on the big side, but it's all good.

I see you only ran it up til 5300 rpms. *Whats the redline on an F22a1 anyways?*

But great numbers! Tell us your secret!

what's your secret to such massive torque?

so you would suggest going 9.0:1 before i go turbo? or will it be alright to run 9.8:1 on like 9 psi until i save up for internals?

Its 6250. The ignition pickup on their dyno was cutting out on them all day. I have several runs that I only got a partial plot on.

No secrets. Just tuning.

The high torque numbers are characteristic to SOHC motors. The F22B1 makes 145hp and 147ft-lbs stock. They just make more torque than hp, i have no idea why, they just do.
