eg interior door handle lock problem
For starters I have a 1992 Civic Cx. On the interior door handle, the LOCK switch is broken. When I removed the door panel it was apparent that the metal lock rod (that runs to the outside door handle) separated from the plastic "lock" mechanism attached to the interior door handle.
I went to a local Honda Dealer and they informed me that I could not just buy the plastic lock handle (says 'lock' on it in case you don't know what i'm talking about).
They showed me the diagram and it does indicate that Honda does not sell this piece seperately. Does anyone know if its possible to take this piece out of a junk yard Civic and clipping it back in place? Would this be difficult to do w/o breaking it? Anyone know if this part MAY be available from honda or aftermarket seperate from the rest of the door handle?
Any help would be appreciated. The handle retails for $70 and I'd rather avoid buying the whole thing.
Thanks for info/suggestions

Junkyard dude. Those things break all the time. If your locks freeze in the winter and you try to lock them from the inside, they break off. Just try your local junkyard.
get whole handle @ junk yard or possible to just take the plastic piece? how difficult is it to take the metal rod off the plastic piece w/o damaging it in the process?
if you're afriad of damaging it in the process then why not clip off about a couple of inches the metal rod and take it home and work with it when it is off the door. It would be much easier that way.

what side do you need? and you need to grease the area where it connects to the plastic or it comes loose after years.

I need passenger side. YEAP, looks like you can't just buy the plastic piece from Honda, that would make too much sense.
This is probably unlikely, but anyone have one of these lying around? Or an extra interior door handle?

I feel your pain. For a while I had the panels off and just used the metal rod. Didn't go over so well with passengers....haha

If anyone has a pair of black driver and passenger side handles, let me know.
Both of mine have broken over the past 5 years and it's getting slightly annoying. At least nobody can unlock my car without a key.

my driver side came broken, and about 2 weeks after buying the car, my frined broke the passenger side. he held the door handle open while i pressed the auto door locks and it jus snapped.
however, take this into consideration. im glad they are broken since i got auto door locks anyways. with it broke, peopel cant do the ghetto hanger trick through ya window to unlock your cars!!
