Default Car not always heating up?

I just replaced my timing belt and water pump maybe 100 miles ago or so. Ever since then, my car's running a little bit colder, some of the time. Sometimes it heats up to normal operating temp, and other times it doesn't. It will just sit on C. I believe this is characteristic of a bad thermostat being stuck open, does this sound right? Will it adversely affect my water pump until I can get it replaced? I am driving from St. Louis to K.C. (4 hrs) this week and want to make sure it's ok to drive on. TIA.

Sounds like a thermostat.

That's what I think, stuck open thermostat. Guess a trip to the dealer this afternoon. Hope it fixes it.

I dunno, those two bolts... it's a tough one...

I was putting a thermostat in my 85 Corolla, and at about 2 in/lbs, whatever fantastic metal they made the thermostat housing out let go and a chunk sheared off with the stud. That made my day.

Got it fixed, took all of about 30 mins to replace. Just wanted to make sure that was the problem. The inner seal on the spring was half gone.
