Default MSD 6A install concerns (OBD2 D16Y8)

I started to intall my MSD 6A today, but ran into a couple concerNs and I did not want to proceed until I had a grasp on what was going on.

First item is not a concern, but more of a basic question. What is a good 12v switched source under the hood???

Second is, taking out the stock coil...I noticed a wire coming off the positive terminal, going back into the engine harness, but also still connecting to the ignitor. Anyone have any ideas what the purpose of this is??? Is this a 12v source from the battery?? I don't want to cut it, should I just leave it hanging??

Car is a 98 civic with OBD2 stock distributor

Any help is appreciated!

Chris

I left it in there, but I tapped it off. And you can use any 12 volt power as long as it is switched. I used the factory coil power.

Excellent, just what I needed.

I was going in an entire different direction previously!

The reason I left it in there was just in case I wanted to put the factory coil in for some reason. Also make sure you add connectors in line with the ones you added so you could still pull the motor or distributer, other wise you will have to cut the wires.
