Default Need some advice, my car was just stolen! Not an ITR.

Hey sorry if the title scared you guys...

Last night (11-21-04) between 3am and 9am my 2000 civic Si was stolen from my apartment complex in the university area of Charlotte, NC.

It's pretty ironic considering I was a police officer in NJ and only have been down here for 2 months because I'm in the process of transferring on to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept!

The reason why I'm posting this in here is because I know unfortunately you guys/girls have experience in dealing with insurance companies when it comes to this topic. For those of you that have had you cars taken from you, how did you go about getting the most from your insurance company? What’s your best advice as far as how I should go about getting the most I can for the car?

Thanks for any help and again I'm sorry for posting this in here. If it really doesn't belong I guess just delete it

that sucks, sorry to hear.

As for getting the most for your car, I don't want to sound like a broken record but use the search and look for other stolen posts and see what the owners say. I know there was a bunch of posts that went into detail.

Good luck.

do not settle with your insurance company until you are satissfied. however, if things are getting too hectic, get a lawyer. no joke.

THey probably wont cover it unless you've already declared additional coverage for them.

Thanks guys...I figured they would not cover any of my parts, I really just wanted to get the most I could (already assuming the parts were a loss)

Its been 24 hours since I reported it and still nothing. I'm sure shes somewhere all chopped up by now

I gave the adjuster a list of all the mods I had done to the car (made me sick when I added it all up) and hes going to get back to me with their offer.

Just to give you guys a little update, I test drove an 05 rsx-s today. At first I was unsure and just went to look at it for lack of other options in that price range however, after driving it I really like!

The car handled amazing (compared to the Si anyway) everything was so smooth and the interior is very nice. They made some changes in the 05 (dont know how much 10hp is noticable but its there)

I've always wanted an ITR but in reality if my Si got stolen that quickly (only lived in this place for less then 2 months) an ITR would be gone in half that time.

I can get into the 05 rsx-s for 22,750 honestly what else is out there for that price that competes with it (new)

Any suggestions are more then welcomed.

PS. If this all works out I may have something new to take to the meet

I know you want a new car, but you can easily grab '03 S2000 for about the same mile w/ <10,000 miles. I think '03 S2000 is a better driver's car than a RSX-S. If you live in a rough area, they will probably jack RSX-S before they jack a S2000. But, who knows what thieves go for.

The biggest gripe I have against RSX-S is lack of LSD. If it had a LSD, it's actually an awesome car for the price.

I think insurance on an s2k would be pretty high. as much as I love the s2k's its not a very practical for my only non-garage kept car.

Some will and some won't, it also depends on how much stuff you had. When my si was stolen we just told them what we had in it, totaling around 900 (including stereo stuff), and they covered it no problem.

Like I said they want to keep you as a customer, but I still hate auto insurance companies

How do you like the car??? Its growing on my more and more by the hour!
As far as the insurance, i have records for 2000.00 in parts (which I don't even come close to expecting, but I gave it to them anyway) I'll keep you updated.

Thanks everyone

A buddy of mine has an S2k and his stats are similar to mine. He pays about half the amount of insurance I do a year (on an ITR). I think theft is a lot lower on them because there isn't much point choppin em.

Just remember this:

Insurance Claim adjusters do their job which is not in your favor. They adjust the price of your claim in favor of the insurance company. Their job is to save the company money. That is why they are called claims ADJUSTERS.
So knowing this you should get all receipts and pictures of the car to prove your facts. They have to work with you to close the claim and pay you off.
So if you have any modifications that were done to the car you should have receipts for it to prove it was on the car. The price they quote you for the car will be for a stock car with no mods. GOODLUCK!

Yeah I put together an email with several pictures along with a detailed list of all the modifications and almost 2k in records for the aftermarket parts. I also did a random search on auto trader and showed him the average price for 99-00 Si's and what they were selling for (all were over blue book value)

Also in the past my insurance company has treated me very well so I hope that this will go faily smooth and I can get into a new car asap. They told me I have to wait 15 days (11 left)

I'll keep you guys updated, so far it looks like im going to get an 05 rsx-s

Hahaha, asking for trouble. Get a 2000 ITR (new to you, anyway!)

You're on the bleeding edge (pricewise) of RX8/STi/Evo territory. Scrape together a few more bucks! You're a cop, get creative!

Actually I am using a nj insurance company, but they are the best one in jersey and are a no fault insurance company, meaning my rates do not go up despite the theft or a speeding ticket.

I'm going to make a new thread about the thought of buying an itr...
