High Compression or Low Comopression You make the Choice
Hey Guys I have a 1.8 non sleeved ls vtec block with eagle rods built head with full valvetrain ported and polished with ctr cams.
Turbo is a sc 61, full race manifold and will be hondata tuned with 800cc injectors
Now I have 2 sets of pistons. I have 9.5:1 wisecos and I have 8:1 Probe Pistons.
Which set do you guys recommend I run, I having a hard time which ones to put it.
octane in ca is 91 and this car will be a daily driver. Wanna hear the difference between the two types of compression. You guys make the choice! Thanks for all the help!

I have 8.5:1 Endyn (Wiseco) pistons in my engine. The car is basically stock right now because of having to see the smog ref. I wish I'd gone with higher compression (around 9:1) because the engine is definitely soft down low. It helps that my car is really light.
Of those two, I'd pick the 9.5:1 pistons.

I run 7.8:1 compression in my B16. The "gains" from high compression turbo setups have been massively, massively overhyped on honda tech. The spool difference is unnoticeable between stock 10.2:1 and 7.8:1, if there even is a difference. Every full point drop in compression is worth about 4% in power. A stock 170 horse GSR dropped to 8:1 compression with no other changes will net you about 156 horsepower. You're countering that with a ported head and CTR cams, which would EASILY make up a 15 horsepower difference from a stock motor. I didn't even see you're running an LS/VTEC setup at first, so that's worth another few horsepower and ft-lbs of torque over a GSR. Going with 9.5:1 compression, especially if you can only get 91 octane, is going to limit your power potential (and safety) on pump gas, because god only knows how much crap additives are in that gas. 8:1 will be safer, you MIGHT notice a slight decrease in power while on boost, but it's nothing to write a letter home about.

Just run the 9.5 comp. and use a cometic headgasket that is a little thicker or thinner to get your desired compression ratio, only problem is you my friend will have to do some MATH! hahahahahahhaha,listen to me DEREK come to the darkside, the power is GREAT. 8.4/1 and couldn't be happier with the choice, reliable 100K mile D16 on 10psi. Spool ?? wrx turbo with a 50-trim comp. wheel and 15 degree turbine clip.

You are massively, massively wrong. 9.5:1 is not going to limit the power potential of pump gas very much.
Go with the wisecos.
