Default Adding VAFC just to activate VTEC on a y7/y8 mini me?

I have a 99 civic with the stock y7 motor. I plan on doing the mini-me and I am going to use a y8 head, y8 automatic intake manifold along with my auto y7 throttle body, y7 harness and y7 ecu. Will the VAFC work with this setup just to activate VTEC? The reason I am doing this is that I already have all the parts and don't want to buy more stuff. I know the y7 ecu redlines at 7100 and the y8 redlines at 7200, but it's not like I ever run my car that high anyway because the motors stop making power a couple hundred rpms below. I just need to know if I can wire the VAFC into my ecu and wire the VTEC solenoid to the VAFC and set the crossover. Thanks

Help please. All I'm wanting to know is if the VAFC will work with my non-VTEC ecu and y8 VTEC head and will be able to set the VTEC.

no it will not work with ur non vtec ecu. because your ECU is not programed for it.

The VAFC only adjust when the sends the signal to engage vtec and the other adjustments that can be made

Correct...you need an MSD RPM switch.

Just run the Y7 ecu, and run the solenoid to an MSD RPM switch...kicks on over a certain point, off at a certain point...kinda like a VTAK ECU!

BTW he is correct that will work. i didnt think of doing it that way. but u do not have to run any wires to the ecu.

So you're saying instead of using a VAFC, all I really need is this MSD thing?Where can I pick up one of these MSD RPM switches and how much are they?

Dang nevermind. I realized that the y7 and y8 ecu probably have different air/fuel maps so it'll make my mini-me run shitty.

thats why you get a SAFC so you can adjust your fuel and airflow control.

I'll probably just get the ecu which will be cheaper than the safc.

Thanks. Ya'll stopped me from making the mistake. I was gonna wire the VTEC solenoid to the VAFC thinking it was gonna work.
