Default R OverHeating, Heating Issues.......

98 jdm type r

about 2 months ago it began to overheat and had no pressure in the hoses so i relaced the thermastat and cts sensor. Worked perfect right after that, the old therma was seized up. However the problem is back again so i replaced the thermastat but this time the old 1 was in good condition, i replaced it anways and i still have the same problems.

Upper rad hose gets hot, also seems like nothing is going through, seems like there is no pressure going throughout the hose
Fan dosnt kick on
get's to midway only now it just keeps getting hotter and hotter, i let it idle for about 35 minutes and it began to overheat, shut the car off and the rad fluid was boiling to a small degree..............

as stated, brand new thermastat/radiator/and cts sensor, what else can it be?

bled the system when the car was on a level surface?
consider a pressure test on the coolant system?
this may be stupid, but you never mentioned if the fan turns on.

Apparently I missed that.

Ignore everything I said prior. Hook up your fan to your battery and see if the fan even spins. Use a multimeter and test the fan switch to see if it gets current.

And Bbasso, you could have at least helped him

Some possible hypothesis: headgasket, water pump going bad. Do a flush of the entire cooling system to make sure nothing is clogged up in there somewhere. Good luck.

my fan works fine, just isnt kicking on because of a different problem, headgasket should be fine and my idle is solid.

how do i test to see if my water pump is working?

Just check you don't have anti-freeze expelling from the breather hole on the water pump. If you do, it's time to replace.

Had any valve work done recently?? How's your oil level?

The fan keeps the car cool at idle. How can you not attribute the fact that your car overheats at idle with this problem?

I think if you get your fan working, the car won't overheat at idle.

If you are indicating that your car overheats while driving it, please state that.

word ^^^

you need a new fan if your car is overheating @ idle

i'd be tripping out if that happened to me

your not understanding, this isnt about my fan, the car will overheat at idle or in driving conditions, there is little to no pressure going through my hoses which means fluid isnt circulating, fan is least of my concerns at the moment

fan worked fine, and i had pressure about 1 week ago, just started pulling this crap on me a few days ago, it takes 30 minutes of idle time to overheat or like 15 mins of drive time, basically it seems like its not even usuing the radiator to cool down the motor, nothing circulates and the motor is forced to burn oil to keep it cool

could be your water pump then, or you need to buy another thermostat

or take it to honda

You see, you didn't specify that it overheats while driving too. It's somewhat difficult to read your typing.

Thank you for posting that it overheats while driving and idling. More than likely it's your waterpump. I could have told you it wasn't your radiator or CTS.

So you boiled your thermostat watched it open up?

Try performing a coolant pressurized leak test if you can make it to a shop.

I am kinda having the same problem.... first off.. if the water pump isnt leaking at the weep hole.. thens its ok... there's no way it is not pushing water(hehe unless your timming belt is broken ).. the vanes are metal l.... so scratch that out... thermostat.. cant go in backwards... the housing wont fit over it...just need to make sure the little bleed hole thats on the thermostat plate is upwards ....the boiling of the thermo is a good test..I am going to do that tomorrow, begining to think my new OEM is defective... rare but possible... you could check and see if there's any restrictions by removing the thermostat...and flushing water in the radiator( ex.. undo bottom hose at thermostat and see if water flowing threw radiator..etc) try it everywhere so you know there's no blockage.... but for the fans.... got to have them on and running....I would get them to stay on constantly and watch the gauge and see if its helping...also try bleeding it w/ car running.. radiator cap off....get it warmed up and give it some rpms to get the coolant flowing....fill it at the same time and cap it asap..... hopefully this helps...
