Default overcooling problem ?

my car takes about 10 mins of real easy drivin to get to about 1/3 of the way on temp gauge (1.5 years) since ive had it. never ever any different whether i do 10 mins or 6 hours of drivin it just goes to 1/3 and pretty much stays there.

now the needle barely gets about 1/5 of the way. even after say 30 mins its at about 1/5 and sometimes goes to 1/3. i can take car for hard drive and once moving needle goes to around 1/5 or even lower sometimes. come to a stop and idle for a few mins and rises to 1/3.

coolant tank has been loosing coolant for few weeks now but cant find single leak anywhere.

any ideas? im guessin faulty thermostat but know little about this sort of thing

If you're losing coolant and it's not leaking anywhere on the ground there's only 2 more places it can go and that's either into your oil or into one of your cylinders and out the tail pipe. Examine your spark plugs and look to see if one of them is different than the others (cleaner). Pull your oil dipstick and make sure your oil looks normal on it and not milky white. Bad headgaskets can cause heating/cooling problems but they usually tend to cause the car to overheat.

Where in the country are you at? If it's starting to get cold out you may possibly have a thermostat that's stuck in the open position and letting all your coolant go to your radiator and it's getting cooled down a little too well. I had this problem in my old 92 CX when I lived in North Dakota. Open thermostat and -30 degree mornings turns into next to no heat in the car.
As far as losing coolant.....headgasket or a cracked sleeve. Check your oil. Also look in your resevoir and see if you have oil floating on top. If so you have some issues that are going to need some serious attention.

plugs are fine and oil cap are in near perfect condition. coolant in tank is crsytal blue so im 99% its not headgasket.

all i can think of is that tiny leak somewhere just evaporates hence no visual of leak. gonna change thermostat 1st and see what that does
