Default Should I torque my DC header? What should I use to get grease stains out?

I just put on a dc sports header. Everything is done except I did not bolt the top bolts to the block because it got dark outside. My question is do I need to put the bolts on with a torque wrench or can I just tighten without using a torque wrench?

Also how should I clean the header before I turn the car on. I heard that if you don't clean a header after install, permanent fingerprint marks will occur.

Thanks!

u need to torque the bolts down to 24ft-lbs. also need to torque it in cross hatch pattern : start from the middle and work ur way out. if u dont have a torque wrench, just tighten it by hand until it's tight. then give it about a 1/2 turn again

eh, it's not really a big deal if your header isn't torqued. just tighten it enough so you know it's not gonna fall off or anything. it's probably not even that important to do the criss-cross pattern either, but i'm **** so i do it anyway.

Use one if you have it. All too often there's a "I broke a header bolt/stud!! How can I get it out?" thread.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by LSvtec03 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">eh, it's not really a big deal if your header isn't torqued. just tighten it enough so you know it's not gonna fall off or anything. it's probably not even that important to do the criss-cross pattern either, but i'm **** so i do it anyway.</TD></TR></TABLE>

The reason you want to torque the header is to prevent to much stress (or bolt stretch) and to create even pressure across the flange. If you just tighten to feel you may create leaks.

id torque it if i were you, in the criss cross pattern as suggested.....and yes, rubbing alcohol is good like mentioned.... make sure you clean it before you turn the car on for the first time to prevent finger prints. have fun!

I didn't torque it down, but you should if you have the tools.
