Default What trannys are possible for a b18b ls swap?

i know the bore and stroke should have something to do with the pan size so i was wondering if the b18b tranny is interchangeable with all the other b series trannys

yes, all b-series transmissions are interchangeable. id recommend a GSR tranny if you want mildly improved gearing, or a b16 if you are looking for a little more, but are willing to sacrifice gas mileage on the highway.

wtf are all you guys saying? no, not all B-series trannies are interchangeable depending on what car the motor and tranny is going into.

yeah he did have that backwards. The gas mileage is not that much different between trannies. i have a jdm itr tranny with is basically the same gearing as a b16 and i get between 28-32 mpg with a gsr swap.

the only thing different is the 5th gear, right? i know i checked usdm hype r with the usdm B16 trannys and they were identicle to each other with the exception of the 5th gear... does this hold tru with the JDM piece?

I think the usdm itr tranny has either a 4.4 or 4.7 final drive, the jdm itr has a 4.8 final drive as i was told from the guy who i bought the car from.

either way the gears are short as hell and i have lsd.

Holy ****. This is just a wealth of misinformation. JDM ITR tranny has a 4.78 FD, USDM ITR tranny has a 4.4 FD. That is the truth. Check out this page if you have questions about the ratios, as there was way too much **** for me to correct personally: http://www.hondaswap.com/forum...29829

Not all B-series trannies are interchangeable, as some are Hydro and some are Cable. There are conversion kits I think, but I don't see how that'd be worth it unless you were starting with a car that had a cable tranny.

To the original poster, is your engine a stock B18B or LS/VTEC? Either way, your redline is going to be pretty low, so an ITR tranny of either country is going to be questionable for highway driving. Use this to calculate, all you need to know is redline and overall tire diameter: http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi FWIW, I have a stock B18B in my hatch right now, and I've been thinking of different trannies to swap in. The JDM ITR is simply too much. The car will be a daily driver/HPDE/track ***** to give you an idea of it's purpose.

Lol, I guess you felt like adding to it.

Only the '98-up jdm itr tranny has the 4.7fd, the '96-'97 has the 4.4fd.

seriously though guys, dont start throwing out things unless you know for sure that its factual information or at least say that youre not sure about it. lying is not JDM at all.

True, I did forget about that, but I figure that tranny is less common anyway. Also, I was more trying to correct the 4.8 JDM FD comment, which is just entirely incorrect, not just something omitted. I don't know if that's necessarily considered misinformation.
