Default fixing up my engine

I have a SOHC 16 valve, and its only a 1.5 L. Its pretty weak but I want to fix it up. I want to eventually swap an H22a into my civic but until I can get the money, Im staying with the engine I have. I wanted to know if it is worth it to fix this engine up and if I will be able to get decent performance out of it.

also, besides turbo and nitro, what are the best ways to up performance by modifying the engine. I am going to take it apart for my vocational class at school so I wanted to know the best ways to up the performance (valves, cams, ... etc...).
thanx

I'll be honest with ya. Your wasting your money dumping it into that motor if you are going for the H22 swap. Save the money and get the swap just that much sooner. Internals can begin to add up.

Don't be hatin. I had a pretty potent 1.5L NA. I swapped a 1.6L D16Z6 head and tranny onto it...it felt a lot better than stock, but nowhere near to being as quick as a swap.

Not hatin' just trying to be economical. I had a D16Z6 fully built with a custom T3/T4 turbo setup in an EG. It was a lot of fun but expensive. Doing a swap can give someone more options to make more power for less money.

Do you guys know any good places to get an H22 for a decent price. And once I get the engine what else am I going to have to replace, and how much work am I looking at?

SEARCH for this kind of info. It's annoying to see people ask these kind of things over and over again.

as for your initial question, i agree with most others that its foolish to put money into one engine when you plan to get another one. use that money saved up to buy a new clutch for the h22 man.

I was also thinking about swapping a D15b VTEC into it, would that be worth it?

I would say to keep saving up money for the swap you want. There's really no point to buy parts for the single slammer and still be slower than any swap.

I say find a trashed Z6, build it, and boost it... I dont think theres is a stock swap that can keep up with a z6 @ 15psi....

and if u blow it up, another Z6 is laying around like trash...

When ur tranny goes, it is easier to spend 150 (si/ex) then 450 (Bseries trannies)....

Building a D16Z6 to be reliable on 15psi is expensive by the time you buy internals and have it rebuilt correctly. I spent a fortune on my old D16 build up and ran it at 14psi. FOr the same price I now have a JDM B16 w/LSD all the bolt-on goodies and a 75 shot making more power. When I decide to build that I could squeeze a lot more power out of it.

Best option for a Z6 is to keep the internals stock, run about 10psi with good fuel management. There is a guy who coaxed 250 WHP out of a stock internal Z6.

Start like this: What are your goals??

If you are ok with being "quick" and feel good in the 14-15 sec range. (times vary..so dont hate)
Then, by all means, build the SOHC.

But if you wanna be "fast" and would be happier in the 12-13 sec range. (again.. times vary..so dont hate)
You might-as-well save your money and by a DOHC.

Do you wanna "keep-up" or "lead the pack." Your call.

Edit: Im not saying SOHC cant be fast. But for simplicity reasons.. im generalizing.

I was also looking into swapping a D15B vtec into it.
I think for my 92 civic it will be a direct bolt in, and my curretn stock tranny should fun fine with it... i think?
what Im confused about is all of the ECU stuff, what ECU would i need, and am I missing anything else...?

A P28... and u need to wire the vtec oil pressure and solenoid if i havent forgotten... its been years since i swapped my single cam in...

Im sure everyone knows that if u abuse a motor day after day, it will eventually start fuking up on you no matter if u have a MaD jDm DOHC or a single cam... I dont want to hear stories about ur Super B16 that would take 9000rpm runs back to back for months with out one problem because face it, if it did happen, ur a lucky bastard...

Boost and reliable NEVER go in the same scentence.... no matter how built u are or how well tuned it is... **** happens...

At the end of the day though, my parts are still cheaper....

Blah... K series is top "dawg" now... I say do whatever you like, but if ur going B series, go at least B18C, LS/VTEC, or build a B20/VTEC... B16 is a waste, its still torqueless 1.6L = 1.6L no matter what letter is in front...

He seem to me like a newbie... I say stick around for a while, read, search, learn stuff, and then make a decision, based on ur budget, needs, and wants... Good luck bro...

I still spit on you dual cammers....
