Right now I have a GSR with 112k miles on it. The headgasket is leaking and when I replace it I just want to do everything. Below is what I was thinking...

Spoon headgasket
Spoon baffled oil pan
Spoon balanced b18c rods
CTR pistons
ARP head studs

I was talking with my shop and they said they recommend that I have it all sent out to be balanced, decked and honed...instead of honing it 'in house'. Reason being, obviously the rods and pistons are balanced with my old crank.

Is that all necesary? Would I be in any danger to not have it all balanced out? Plus I've heard Eriks racing runs all green bearings. Is that a good idea or should I stick with the OEM setup?

id say stay away from spoon...unless you want to waste the money on the name...you can get just as good cometic headgaskets and a moroso pan...

 

green bearings thats his choice cause the engine gets rebuild
more often than yours.

spoon this and that, it looks that you only want name brand not performance.

best bet is to get your block blueprinted and balanced so that you dont
get into any trouble if not your investment will go down the drain

so best bet is to keep your stock oil pan and upgrade rods, pistons, head studs and
rod bolts also.

It doesn't matter what oil pan, its just the spoon one is available right now. as for spoon rods, they are already pre balanced. I mean it'll save me some down time and a trip to the machine shop.

Regardless of what oil pan I use. Would it be stupid to have pre balanced pistons and pre balance rods put in without having your motor blueprinted and balanced. The reason I ask is, they want 850 - 1000 bucks to blue print, balance, hone and deck the block.

 

What are your plans for the car? If it is just a street car and with no major plans for it just replace the headgasget with a OEM head gasket from honda and maybe replace the bearings. There is no need to replace the pistons and rods and oil pan for a fairly stock street car. Unless you have a couple of grand to blow. It would just be an uneccesary expense.

 

dont do ctr pistons get some forged ones they are stronger and you can get whatever compression ration you want. and id have everything balenced and blueprinted. dont worry about getting spoon stuff your paying for the name.

Its a hobby, I'm want to build it. Who rebuilds a motor just to have it stock again?

Some one who uses it as a daily driver and doesn't want to have realibilty issues with there car.
