best cams
wondering what the best cams would be for a booster gsr. had heard that vtec is bad for turbo. Please set me straight. its a 2000 gsr and lookin to go with a greddy turbo kit, intercooler hondata and maybe a head port and polish/ valvetrain. reliability is first priority, lookin for maximum power with minimum boost. any info great have searched for months but everyone has different answers.

thanks a lot, real helpful. god forbid you are informative rather than being a sarcastic ***. I have searched and in every post there are different answers. To someone who is trying to learn it becomes confusing and you don't know who to believe. If you can't help than don't bother posting a reply
What you heard about Vtec being bad for turbo is wrong. Vtec has absolutely nothing to do with turbo. It's basically just another lobe of the cam that gets utilized when a certain rpm is reached (triggered by an oil pressure switch). In fact, it's better. A boosted GSR is better than a boosted LS. The difference in compression is negligible. Plus, when you build the motors, the GSR will come out on top because of the Vtec.
Why are you set on getting a Greddy turbo kit? They have such small turbos. Search the Forced Induction forum here and you'll see what people prefer. Mostly the Drag 3 kit, Revhard, or even Full Race if you have the money.
If you want maximum power with the minimum boost, you want a larger turbo (not TOO large). But not what the Greddy has to offer. You want something that moves lots of air, NOT lots of boost. 10psi on a Greddy turbo won't give you as much power as 10psi on a Drag 3 T3/T04B/E turbo for example.
Definitely search around the FI forum here.

i should clarify, i realize what the vtec is by i didn't know if the duration and overlap of the vtec camlobes were optimal for turbo apps. the reason why i want to go with greddy is ive heard they are better quality, easier and cleaner-looking to install, and also i dont like the manifolds of drag and those other kits. reliability is key to me and im not looking for a million horsepower. Just want to smoke my friends mustang gt so he will shut the hell up about my jap piece of crap.

Hehe....I know what you mean about shutting up a **** talking friend. I had to do that several times.
Anyway, your worries about Vtec are not an issue. Vtec is a good thing with turbo and without. The only good thing about the Greddy kit is that it comes with CARB legal paperwork and numbers. That's the ONLY thing. Unless you live in California, don't bother with the Greddy kit.
It isn't any higher quality than anything else. If I remember correctly, it's quite pricey for something that doesn't give you THAT much power. What manifolds DON'T you like? You can always swap manifolds with something you do want. I admit the Drag manifolds leave something to be desired, but if that's the only thing steering you to Greddy, please reconsider. You can change the manifold. The Revhard manifold is great, plus Revhard has MANY options you can swap to for some extra money.
Just so you know.....you're not going to "smoke" your friends Mustang GT with just a bolt on turbo kit like that. With no internal motor work, you might JUST BARELY pull on him. Mustang GT's are pretty fast stock with lots of torque. That's what's gonna get you.
You'll probably beat him, but not to the point where he will be like, "Damn you're right, your car is fast." If you're lucky, you might get a "Wow, you inched away from me on a roll. Now let's go from a light and watch me eat you alive."

Shamoo is right. Don't let the drag manifold push you to buy the greddy kit. With the price Greddy kit is, you can piece a pretty good kit. There are lots of other manifold to choose from. Revhard, Full Race, ect.. You can even get custom ones.
...And as for vtec engines, since it come with more horse, it will most likely make more horse at the same setup and psi as an LS motor. The only thing diff. about vtec w/turbo is tuning the vtec point. It's not difficult just something extra.
