If you don't want to spend the money for the RSR or Thermal, then don't even look at HK$ or Mugen.

I too am looking for a muffler that is the same shape (horizontal with exit on the left, like stock) for my custom made exhaust.

I used to like the canister look myself (I also used to like taillight conversions ). But after getting pulled over by CHP (in a neighborhood, no less) for a shiny exhaust, I've come to love these ES Ovals.

Wow. Are you experiencing any melting or soot problems with that tip like that??

I have an N1, and I think it looks fine. My muffler kinda sticks out a bit, but I like it. No soot on my bumper either!! YAY! Other than that my exhaust looks like its been pieced together, but from what you can see normally it looks fine. I'll get a pic or two on here sometime

Was that to me? No melting problems here. It tucks slightly behind the bumper, and I get a small amount of soot on there, but its not very noticable since the car is black. (Hopefully it wont be sooty for too much longer. I'm running very rich right now) Anyways, As long as I keep up with the car washes, its nothing to worry about.

I'd rather have it hang behind the bumper than stick out, even if it makes my bumper a little sooty.

I know its very plain, but I like it like that. The flat black exhaust, along with my BAR sticker (soon) give me a lot less to worry about when I see cops driving around.

Ebay N1 muffler with a straight pipe under the gas tank..
The guy had a thread on his exhaust a while ago..It takes ***** to run an exhaust under the gas and have it sit that low ..

I think the best looking mufflers are the ones that run perpendicular to the car and completely polished, eg:

Greddy Sp1/sp2
Apex ws
Dc sports

But, as for the charcoal/gray-colored mufflers, i think the best looking are:

HKS
RSR
Mugen

You'll find plenty of pics of all these if you search.

LsFrnknstn- About how long is the pipe from the muffler to the bumper? I'm looking at mendrel bends at kteller, that's why I ask. Also, what paint did you use for the exhaust and how far back did you paint?

For the low key exhaust.

The classic Mugen and HKS exhausts

100% CORRECT

Best looking by far, but dont think I'd say best performing; only due to todays swaps/HP and the small diameter piping those exhausts have.

But who cares. I'd rock either one in a second over anything out.

A friend of mine bought a Remus dual tip muffler (canister style) and had the tips removed & extended, and the canister welded in like stock. It looked almost like a factory dual tip Si exhaust, the tips were just a little bigger. It sounded pretty good too.
