88-89 CRX under car coating
i purchased the crx from a friend, its an 88 or 89. i wont be able to pick it up for a couple of days nor see it. im setting up an appointment to have the car media blasted. the guy asked me if the car has that rubberized coating on the undercariage, like they do in the wheel wells. this will have a bearing on the price as this has to be heated up and scraped off.
so does anyone know if it has it or not?

I'm almost positive they all do have undercoating. I recently stripped the undercarriage of my 91 rex. If you are stripping it for the purpose of painting it, I would strongly recommend using wire brush stripping wheels to remove the stuff. Heating it and crap is a huge pain in the *** and sandblasting it only seem to **** it off! lol Also, using heat and a scrapper will leave scratches and gouges in the finish which may not matter depending on why you are doing it in the first place. I tried several different methods and the wire wheels seemed the most effective and efficient.
I searched all over for the best method to do this. I found several ways but the wire wheels seemed to be the fastest and didn't damage the surface. Make sure you use a mask and throw a damn hoody on and pull it over your head because that **** gets nasty and will find its way into every body cavity! LMAO Also don't waste your money on the Black & Decker brand wheels they aren't worth a damn. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up some decent wire wheels.
You can get by with out it...thought I was going to need the same thing but I didn't want to weld that **** to the frame and deal with all that expense. I bought some of the 6 ton jackstands from harbor frieght and got the car up about 22 inches off the floor and it was comfortable enough on a creeper.

Yeah, cuz you know it snows here every day...
And all that salt spray from the ocean? Yep...

Did you have any rust under there? If so, how well did the wheel stand up to the rust? I've been considering doing that for some time now, tired of seeing the rust forming under the plastic moldings under the doors.
The car isn't a daily driver so I'm not too concerned with it chipping or anything. Put a couple good coats of primer and 3 good coats of clear so hopefully that'll help too. As much as I hated to I did spray some clear rock guard in the wheel well area's. Not really to much to worry about with the NC climate...and since she won't see the streets daily the only thing she'll have to worry about is maybe a tornado that's about it huh drdisco?
Was lucky the car is a southern car and had zero rust on it so I didn't have to deal with any rust issues. If it hadn't been wrecked on the left side by the previous owner I would have restored it all back to original condition but I'm going to wait until I can find a mint one like someone posted on here the other day to do that.

A damn hurricaine is more like it. NC is fairly bullshit-free as far as most stuff goes, though.
That is a great looking job, btw. Thats the kind of car I would love to work on: so clean you could eat off it. You should have painted the rest of the jack stands, just because.
