Default Atlanta - I/C pipe welding?

So I'm trying to not lay down some obscene amount of money in my intercooler setup(all said and done, premade stuff will easily surpass $1k!). I was going to get an Ebay core and some JC Whitney mild steel pipes and mock up the piping. I would rather not have like 10 coupler connections just waiting to blow off, but so far people want to completely rip me off on the welding of a few piping connections that I'll have already lined up for them(like $250+ for what in my experience would be around an hour-1.5 hrs of welding).

So does anybody in Atlanta want to make a few bucks on the side? I'll pay for consumables and then a fair rate plus supply some beer. You don't have to be able to lay a perfect bead, just gotta hold 'em together.

I would buy a welder, but I'm about to graduate from college, so lots of moving + not much money(whole reason I'm trying this route anyway) just doesn't mean I can even get a half assed welding machine.

Sorry if this is inappropriate for this forum, but I figured some guys wouldn't mind making a few bucks with their welder.

Thanks for the offer, but that does potentially sound very pricey...

I might just resign to picking up a blinging GReddy kit since this search for custom piping work just isn't happening...

I would just buy the kit....no hassle just bolts right on and looks good....where as most custom jobs you save a 100-200$ but it looks like **** and you had to fight to make it fit....not to mention all the uneeded couplers.

but this is just from my past experience and I've gone through 6intercoolers

Unfortunately, I'm seeing this post as the dead truth. I really sat down and made a big *** excel spreadsheet listing every cost I could think of and the premade kit just doesn't seem that bad. After paying a reasonable $100 for labor/welding consumables I am probably going to save right around $100.

If getting crap to work right ends up nickle and diming me to death, it could almost end up costing just the same.

Oh well, I'm going to look around, but so far the custom setup is almost as expensive after I sat down and really added up everything I could think of, and the headache just doesn't seem worth $100. Heck, the gas out of the city and back takes up a good chunk of that!

Thanks for the responses guys, but it looks like I'm just going to have to save my pennies for a while longer and get some bling GReddy kit. Sorry for the hassle.

I too have come to this conclusion that your better off just buying the greddy setup kit then buying ubends and getting someone to make / weld the pipes for you.

$250 is not cheap for what I'm talking about getting done.
