Default Why wont my R start right away?

After I have not driven my R for awhile and get in to start it, it wont turn over. It just clicks like a dead battery. Ill turn the key 10-12 times before the motor will turn over and start. Bad starter? Also, I just put my rebuilt motor in. Does a new motor require more oil than usual, or burn oil during the break in process? Thanks...

Have you had the battery tested? Sounds like that to me as well. The new motors require sesitive driving and oil changes but the volume of oil required is the same as stock.

get a charger test/battery test. you can take it to like to your local garage and they will have a battery/altenator tester. or if you have a mltimeter you can test your battery by putting the negative on the negative terminal of the battery and the pos on pos and it should read 12.1-9 volts. you could also do a teat the starter by doing a voltage drop test. check the alternator and the alternator belt tension also.

Yep! A rebuilt motor will continue to burn oil for a few thousand miles. I would do all of the above and also continue to check my oil level often. Your motor burns oil like hell during the break in process.

How easy is it to have a ring not set properly?

I don't think it is the battery. It could be a bad relay or your starter. If it was the battery, it would not be acting like it is.

I drove it the first 2 weeks on 4 1/2 quarts of oil. The other day VTEC would not engage. I thought WTF?? My buddy came over and it wasnt too long before we figured out I was really low on oil!! Put 3 quarts back in and VTEC is back.

during the break in period you need to monitor the oil on almost a daily basis and you do NOT use synthetic.

in that case you would have trails of smoke in your exhaust probably.... next time you drain your oil, look for fuel in the oil. (I think it floats, right?)

Check all the motor grounds. If you just have the valve cover ground, you will get these kinds of symptoms. The battery will act dead, but the car will seem to have full power. Try adding another ground from the tranny to the chasis and see if this fixes the problem.

JSpecwest maybe u disconnected the battery and forgot too tighten the screw back. My R had the same problem u described. Most likely you just forgot to tighten it. Thats what happened to me.
