OT: Need help with Home Insurance
Hey guys, I know most of you guys own your own home in here, I just need some help regarding some items I lost in a recent fire.
Apparently a spare engine and transmission in my house is not considered "personal property." Where can I find information that explains what is personal property? I have about $6,000 worth of parts in my room that my insurance company does not want to pay.
In this picture the head in front of the car is not the head off of the car itself, but a spare RSX Type S head I had in the carport.

Thanks for the help guys, sorry to be a bother.

Mike, I don't really know. My dad just recieved a phone call from them today. So it looks like I need to find out what they're trying to consider it as. According to an email I sent to the Georgia Insurance Commissioner's office, they said if it's personal property then it should be covered. This isn't the only item we're having difficulty with. Right now there are some items in the house that the builder is trying to skimp in. It has been brought to the Insurance's attention, but it seems as though the insurance is also trying to save some extra money. There are some floor joist that supports the main floor near the kitchen that sustained some heavy damages. The builder quickly went in the crawlspace and painted over the structure claiming that there were no damages. I mean, the flames were intense enough to do this to my wheels.

Man, they are driving me totally off the wall. Should I get a lawyer?

Sounds like they are trying to get away with quite a few things, flexing the typical "big insurance company" muscles persay... I would strongly suggest getting a lawyer.
Good Luck

Len, I would suggest trying to get the GA. Insurance Comm. office to help before spending money on a lawyer; call me if you need more info.

PM sent. basically, get a lawyer because it's more than obvious that they are trying to take advantage of you. a lawyer is only there to help.
also, you don't have to deal with the bull crap they feed you if you get a lawyer.

Before you get a lawyer - which will make the recovery process both expensive and lengthy, with uncertain chances of success - I would ask this: Have you discussed the situation with your agent? State Farm has local agents everywhere, and you probably have one that you purchased your policy through. Even though you deal with claims adjusters for your claim, your local agent can go to bat for you if you run into any problems. Some of the agents are actually very good at interceding in such situations. Definitely worth trying, and you have nothing to lose by doing so.
Keep in mind that the local agent gets commissions to sell and keep your business, so his incentive is in keeping you happy. It's only the claims adjuster's incentive to minimize claims settlement costs.
Good luck.
