Default When unbolting the cat, what to do with the O2 sensor?

I was going to experiment and unbolt the cat today and take a quick test drive around with it off, but will I get a CEL for the 2nd o2 sensor?

Just wondering, because if the car goes into "safemode" then theres no point in unbolting the cat for the performance gain, right?...

so...what to do, what to do...

The 2nd O2 sensor attaches to the car with a rubber grommet - pull that out & you'll find a nice little male/female wire connector you can detach. (This makes it much easer to remove when you need to pull it from the cat instead of unscrewing while assembled.

As for the "safe" mode...I don't know if you will run into that or not...easy enough to find out tho - - - get a carsound cat & avoid the problems...

unbolting the second O2 sensor WILL give you a CEL...but it WON'T put you into safe mode...you will gain no performance either way, unless you are replacing the cat w/ a test pipe...

BTW, there was a flow chart which I have a copy of somewhere which shows that a test pipe only flows slightly more than a carsound cat...not worth it in my opinion to gain a few cfm of flow (and I live in a state w/ no emissions)

hey thanks guys...

I'm not doing this as a permanent thing, im just guaging how much of a difference it makes...as well as seeing if it can really help out performance that much...

I don't know if u remember active aero's post about running 14.03 with no p/s, no seats, aem cai, and open header...so i just wanna see if it really does make that much of a diff...

When it comes time, the carsound's making its way on the car

thanks again

editL: another reason im doing this: im bored, i just got a jack and jackstands for christmas, and they're asking to be broken in

.....well the 2nd o2 has to detect less crap than the primary one or you will get a cel. Solution? You'll get a cel as soon as you unplug it. I dunno if that will pull timing or put you in limp mode though...

Here's what I did: get a bit of wire coathanger and bend it to hold the 2nd o2 sensor. put it into the hole of the stock catback and use the coathanger to make sure it's not gonna fall out and drag on the ground. You can run open header this way - and since the 2nd o2 is detecting more oxygen than the primary you won't get a light...

If you wanna run a test pipe, then get a godspeed one that fools the 2nd o2 sensor...

OR

just use the coathanger to hold the 2nd o2 sensor somewhere else under the car - like hooked around the shift linkage so it won't hit the ground and scrape... or you could just unplug it, put it in the car in a plastic bag, and plug it back in..... You have to pull the plug up through the floor that way though.....
