Time for Rebuild?
i just purchased a 90 CRX Si and i love it. i've had 2 foxbody 5.0's and a 1g DSM. none of them just felt as 'fun' as this little car. but anyway.. when i got the car.. i noticed that plug #2 is fouled. and even after changing it the car still blows a lot of white smoke.. time for a rebuild? should a rebuild kit using OEM parts suffice? im shooting for 170~ whp. or should i spend the extra cash for forged parts for peace of mind.. will the extra money be worth it?
i plan on turboing the car with the stock a6 head but i figure do things right the first time and i wont have to worry about going back to fix anything later. i've read a lot of different things saying which head flows better and yadda yadda. i'd like to hear from people who turbo'd their d16a6's.
i have a friend that has a turbo'd mini-me swap that's blown3 head gaskets >_< don't ask me why.. maybe bad tuning? are the OEM gaskets just weak and i should go for aftermarket ..cometic?
sorry i don't know if this should go into forced induction section. i will leave it here so i don't double post the same thing

the mini-me probably blows headgaskets because the chamber and the piston crown dont match at all which means gaspockets = detonation (short version).
figure out the minimal to fix your A6 and then budget boost it. if you destroy it learning the ropes of boost, big deal, it was cheap. just because a motor is "built" doesnt mean it wont soon be broke. ignorance goes a long way and is seldom cheap. the A6 is a great engine.

OEM gaskets are the way to go..Spray 3 coats of copper spray on both sides if you want an extra tight seal..
Cometic gaskets or any other aftermarket gaskets for hondas make me feel uncomfortable

>First- Welcome to the world of small motors and big budgets!!!!!
Because iif you plan on turboing it -you'd bedder do it right the 1st time with high grade than O.E.M. parts.
>Second- Depending on your mileage and the cars history, it may or may not be time for a rebuild. But all honda cars from 88-91 got a crappy headgaskets that was **** to let oil into the firing chamber>thus it smokes. Honda didn't recall these, but rather changed the design for people like us who have to fix it years later.

the miles are actually pretty low for a 90. i have around 103xxx but i garuntee the car has been driven hard. but yah i think i will fix what needs to be fixed for now.. besides if i blow something up d-series motors are like what.. 5 bucks? lol okay not that cheap but u get the point. but yah could a shitty headgasket cause it to foul plugs? maybe piston rings? not to sure.. but i must do something about it quick because im pretty much stealing my turbo + charge pipes + smic from my old DSM >_<

cometic makes some of the highest quality headgaskets in the industry, for the widest range of applications and on some of the worlds fastest 4 bangers. if its good enough for an 8 second 800 horse civic, i think your d16 will get by with one.
"doing it right" entails having the block and head mating surfaces machined, which means full rebuild. tell the engine shop 50 micron RA surface or finer.
avoid copper spray.

But just to let you know, besides the headgasket that should be an aftermarket replacement, so should the head bolts and valve seals. The bolts were apart the the revised design by Honda. They supposively didn't allow enogh give under certain temps for the head gasket to expand and contract. That along with the crappy materails the used-the valve seals that go bad don't help ethier
