searched, d16z6 head on d16y8 block
okay... basically out of curiousity... i know a d16z6 head will lower the compression which will hurt hp/tq... but... the d16z6 head is ported/polished... stainless steel valves... welded chambers... resufaced... 5 angle valve job... if i get the head... it will be JUST the head... so i was wondering if all that work on the head will make up for the loss of power due to compression ratio... and what parts will i need? i have everything from my d16y8 because thats what i have in my car now... i want to reuse as many d16y8 parts as possible... i know for starters, ill have to find a d16z6 distributor and a d16z6 vtec solenoid... i dont know what else and i dont know what problems ill run into because the d16z6 is obd1... but i dont know if this matters because its just the head... any pointers/tips would be helpful... thanks...
if the chambers are welded, the compression ration should increase to atleast what the y8 is stock. The z6 head flows better than the y8 head but the y8 intake manifold flows better than the z6. The gains may or may not be noticable. can you give more info on the setup?
er, i thought i kinda gave the setup...
this is what i have right now... entirely stock d16y8 setup... since thats what my car is... a 98 ex... the only thing i added on was an AEM CAI... but thats regardless of this...
theres a d16z6 head... 'just' the head... nothing else... meaning i have to use my old valve cover, intake manifold, etc, etc, etc... the only thing i'd be getting is the head...
this is the work thats been done on the head...
full complete clean of the head; full porting and polished done throughout the head (ports, both bxhaust and intake); chambers welded (helps prevent detonation); head resurfaced (make sure it is flat for good head gasket seal); complete 5 angle valve job; stainless steel valves installed with stock valvetrain

TABIAS had it on his old coupe before it switched hands to Built to Spill. I'm sure one of them could answer any specific questions you have.
