I am looking into a b16a1 swap for my 89 civic dx sedan :) any help would be awesome
Hello, I just signed up today for this... so here goes:
I have a 89 civic DX 4-door currently with the d15b2 motor. what my plan is to get a b16a1 complete swap then upgrade stuff like cams, exhaust header, intake manifold and stuff.
I am not in a hurry just yet, as my old engine still works fine with a mere 235k miles on it, but it has no power and smokes a bit because I think I need new valve seals... so anyway what I have figured I need for the swap is primarily just mounts, linkage and axles. I know that my wiring is different because of vtec and multi-port fuel injection that has to be wired in.
so if anyone can correct my knowledge or give me ideas if you have done this same swap, that would be terrific
thank you!

okay so if I get an OBD-0 ecu with it how do I wire up MPFI and Vtec? I have heard that I need an SI with vtec engine harness?

Th only help i can give you is to suggest that you not put a wee16 in there...get a real mans engine like a b18/b20
Nah...but you seem to be on the right track. If im not mistaken there are some good links in the FAQ thread for all the wiring that you need to do. And if i were you id keep the stock DX harness and modify it...i just think its so much easier that way. Good luck

Ahh, a lovely four door newb who knows his **** for what its worth
1) Do MPFI Conversion first off, this will allow you to master your wiring skills and basic trouble shooting skills. The goal here is to complete this, turn the car on the first time and have no codes. Guide that I used - http://fourthgenhatch.com/mpfi.html
2) If your burning oil now, well, save the money. You can usually pick up a whole D16A6 and if your lucky, plus transmission for less than the cost of having someone rebuild you head, unless you do the work yourself or have someone do it for you on the cheap.
3) Learn to drive your sedan with the power you have, we have some odd handling characteristics with stock suspension due to the slightly longer wheelbase when we add power. Just my thoughts

awesome I appreciate these responses... I also have KYB-AGX adjustable shocks and I threw on cheap coilover springs so the ride is pretty stiff but now I have a little bit of camber to dealwith (inward at top) and I also have upper and lower front tie bars and rear lower tie bar so basically there is no noticeable body roll hehe.
(bump) so once the engine is installed and MPFI wired properly, assuming the engine starts with no error codes heh... what then is required for the vtec wiring? is there a help page like the MPFI setup somewhere? Thanks!

okay so now I have been looking at prices and stuff... I think one of the better deals I have found is on: http://inlinefour.com/motors.html I was looking at either the complete swap with lsd for $2200 or without lsd for $1800 and the complete swap includes axles and mounts, but no linkage....
anyone else find some similar bargains such as these? anything better? I am not interested in a motor that has more than 40k miles on it.

Your best bet is http://www.hmotorsonline.com They have wonderful customer service and reputation. Their motors are guarenteed to work without fail, as are all the sensors. They offer aftermarket Hasport motor mounts and shift linkage as well.
hmm I just found a engine importer up in Lynnwood, Washington and I was there this evening and they currently have one B16 motor swap and they quoted me 1450 and free next day delivery! but ya I'm still saving up money and I want one with an lsd in it for a bit more
so in case anyone is up in this area, the place is called Foreign Engines Inc. and they have hundreds of any japanese motors... not just hondas!

there is a member on here his name is droppedcrxsi and he sells the harnesses to do the swaps , you can get a dx to b16 harness from him, his website is http://www.geocities.com/droppedcrxsi_wiring/ this would be a good idea if you really dont want to do the wiring yourself, his prices are pretty good too
hmm anyone think that this harness would work?
