Default 400 whp build

hey guys... i have a bare b18a1 block with nothing in it at all ready to be built, and non vetc head. I just bought a turbo kit and i have about 8500 dollars to spend on motor build minus what it's gonna cost me for an LS trans with LSD quaff. my question is what will i need to get my engine built to handle boost high enough to create 400-480 whp... I don't wanna just buy a GSR motor. so do i need to just bore it out to 84mm with sleeves with LS Vtec conversion kit or can i stay non-vtec and hit my power goal.... i wanna know what types of pistons, rods, cams, everything.... i want alot of diff GOOD!!! opionions sooo if u don't have something good to input then plz don't post.. thx for the help

if you want 400 hp your gonna have to replace pretty much every internal thing in ur engine. buy a new head with cams, springs and retainers, ported and polished, everything already in it and save the hassle. build up the bottom end. but the thing thats most important is the way u tune it. get a hell of a fuel management system and get that bad boy tuned. i hope ur gonna do most of the work urself cause if you have a shop do all of it ur gonna go way over ur price range. good luck and let us know whats goin on. what kind of turbo kit did u buy?

You're looking for quite alot of HP. Good luck on your build but I can safely say it's going to be a very... very long, and hard road to get to that amount of HP.

if you have never done anything like this before then I would talk to someone and have them build and make the motor for you. You have to have a fully built motor or close to it prob running around 20-30ps or more. On and your gonna to get a standalone system like hondata or if you have the money a motec system. Also your gonna need new axles because you will be breaking your stock ones all the time. Go to Fullraces website its like fullrace.com. Get the motor built at a reputable shop like Larrys Endyn, Jeff at IB, or Jim Justice of Justice Racing. To have a motor make that kind of power expect to put 10 grand easy into it. I hope this is a drag car with slicks, cause your gonna go through street tires by the end of the day.

ive done builds like this before but never in the HP range im looking for mostly ive been in the 350's never 450+.... im not worried about the build itself i just don't wanna waste any of my money on things that are not needed.. so that when i comes time for the dyno if there is anything i lack ill still have the money for it...

im picking up the crower turbo cams boring out the block to 84mm righrt now... having it sleved.. i have je 9:1 psitons and eagle rods on the way... got the hondata intake manifold gasket and im on the way of getting the hondata installed soon.. just need to know what to do to the block other than just sleve it to be able to handle 22-28 lbs of boost

Just curious, what is the advantage in goin with 9:1 pistons when stock LS compression is like 9.2:1? Is it worth it for that small of a drop in compression?

well it is if ur upgrading to forged pistons over the stock pistions that come in the LS.. LS pistions won't hold up to an extreme amount of boost
